Crimson Desert How To Expand Howling Hill

Crimson Desert How To Expand Howling Hill

Expand Howling Hill in Crimson Desert feels broken at first… you follow the marker, stand in camp, and nothing happens. The reason is simple, this is not a normal quest trigger. You are supposed to start it through a hidden dispatch system using the map.

How To Expand Howling Hill In Crimson Desert

To expand Howling Hill, open the map, switch to Factions, inspect the Greymane camp icon, then select and dispatch the Expand the Camp at Howling Hill mission.

That is the only way to start it. The quest marker in camp does not do anything on its own.

Follow these steps:

  • Open your map

  • Switch the filter to Factions

  • Hover over the Greymane camp icon

  • Press Inspect

  • Go to the Mission List tab

  • Select Expand the Camp at Howling Hill

  • Assign at least 2 Comrades

  • Dispatch the mission

Controls for Inspect:

  • Xbox, press Y

  • PlayStation, press Triangle

  • PC, double click the icon

If the menu says “Function not available”, just close and reopen the map… it usually works after that.

Why Expand Howling Hill Is Not Working

This is where most players get stuck.

The game points you to the middle of camp with a red marker, but there is nothing to interact with. That is intentional, even if it feels like a bug.

This mission is handled through the dispatch system, which means:

  • It does not start from an NPC

  • It does not activate from your journal

  • It only works through the Inspect menu on the map

If you do not use Inspect on the Greymane camp, the quest will never start.

How To Complete Expand Howling Hill

After you dispatch the mission, it runs automatically in the background.

You just need to assign your Comrades and wait for it to finish.

  • Requires at least 2 Comrades

  • Luke and Ronald work fine for most players

  • Takes about 17 in game hours

You can speed it up by resting:

  • Sleep for 12 hours

  • Then wait out the remaining time

Once the timer ends, you will get a notification and the camp expands automatically.

What Expanding Howling Hill Does

Expanding Howling Hill upgrades your Greymane Camp and unlocks more progression tied to your base.

You will start to notice:

  • More camp activity

  • Additional systems tied to your camp

  • Progression opening up further

It is required for moving forward smoothly in the story and side systems.

Final Blurb

Expand Howling Hill is one of those moments where the game expects you to understand a system it never clearly explains. The marker sends you to the right place, but the actual trigger is hidden in the map.

Once you know to use the Factions tab and dispatch the mission, it takes seconds to start and finishes on its own. Until then, it just feels like the quest is completely broken.
