How to Backtrack in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

There’s no full open-world fast travel in Expedition 33. Backtracking takes a mix of area flags, dungeon doors, and hidden shortcuts. Here’s how to actually get back where you came from.

Use Dungeon Flags to Fast Travel Within Areas & Go Back

Each major region has its own dungeon-like layout.

Once you enter a dungeon area, you unlock flag-based fast travel points inside that zone. These let you jump between major rooms or camps — but only inside that specific area.

You can’t fast travel directly between regions from the world map.

Returning to Previous Regions

To get back to an old region, you’ll need to:

  1. Exit your current dungeon to the world map.

  2. Walk to the entrance of the region you want to revisit.

  3. Enter it, then use the flags inside to fast travel around.

You can’t just click the old region on the continent map — it’s not interactable that way.

Find Standing Stones for Shortcuts

Some standing stones on the world map act as shortcuts.

These stones create bridges and paths back to earlier zones, letting you skip long sections. They’re not labeled clearly, so you’ll need to keep an eye out for them while exploring.

A good early shortcut example: there's a stone that lets you bypass the Flying Waters zone and return to the starting area much faster.

Mount Unlock (Later in the Game)

Later in the story, you’ll unlock a mount that speeds up world map travel. It doesn’t allow instant warping, but it cuts down on walking time across the map.

Final Blurb

Backtracking in Expedition 33 can feel old-school, but there are ways to make it smoother. Use flags, unlock shortcuts, and once you get a mount, moving around gets a lot easier.
