If you’ve spent any time in Old School RuneScape (OSRS), you’ve likely heard of kudos—the Varrock Museum’s way of rewarding players for contributing to Gielinor’s history. But kudos aren’t just a fun acknowledgment of your discoveries; they unlock important rewards, access to Fossil Island, and, ultimately, help you progress in the game. Whether you're new or seasoned, this guide will walk you through every possible way to earn kudos in OSRS, diving into each activity and breaking down how to maximize your kudos collection.

Total Kudos Available

As a member, you can earn a maximum of 235 kudos by completing all museum-related activities, while free-to-play players have access to just a small portion of these through the ancient relics. Here’s a detailed look at each method:

1. Ancient Relics (5 Kudos)

This is the only option for free-to-play players, and it’s also available to members. The ancient relics can be found in the Ruins of Camdozaal, accessible after completing the Below Ice Mountain quest. To earn kudos with relics:

  • Location: Mine Barronite deposits in the Ruins of Camdozaal.

  • Process: Use a hammer to open Barronite deposits at the crusher, revealing ancient relics. Each relic donated to Curator Haig Halen earns 1 kudos and 200 coins for the first relic and 100 coins for any duplicates.

Each unique relic earns you one kudos, up to a maximum of 5 kudos.

List of Relics:

  • Ancient globe

  • Ancient ledger

  • Ancient astroscope

  • Ancient treatise

  • Ancient carcanet

Total Kudos from Ancient Relics: 5

2. Cleaning Uncleaned Finds (50 Kudos)

Once you’ve completed The Dig Site quest, you unlock the ability to clean finds at the museum’s south wing on the first floor. This is one of the most straightforward ways to rack up kudos.

  • Preparation: Equip gloves and boots (any kind works) and gather a trowel, rock pick, and specimen brush from the tool rack on the south wall.

  • Cleaning Process: Collect uncleaned finds from the specimen pile and clean them at any empty table.

As you clean, you’ll uncover various artifacts, some valuable and some less so. The valuable items need to be placed in display cases, each earning you 10 kudos upon placement. There are five unique display cases for these items, meaning you can earn a total of 50 kudos.

Items and Display Cases:

  • Pottery - Display case 22

  • Old symbol - Display case 36

  • Ancient symbol - Display case 37

  • Ancient coin - Display case 44

  • Old coin - Display case 45

Total Kudos from Cleaning Finds: 50

3. Natural History Quiz (28 Kudos)

The Natural History Quiz is a straightforward task that doesn’t require any specific skill levels. To begin, head to the museum basement, where you’ll find plaques displaying Gielinor's wildlife.

  • Starting the Quiz: Speak to Orlando Smith, who will guide you through the quiz process.

  • Answering Questions: Each plaque has questions about a particular animal or creature. Answering three questions per display awards you 2 kudos.

There are 14 display cases, making it possible to earn 28 kudos by completing the quiz. After completing the entire exhibit, speak to Orlando Smith to receive a 1,000 XP reward in both Slayer and Hunter, boosting these skills from level 1 to 9.

Total Kudos from the Natural History Quiz: 28

4. Timeline Displays (80 Kudos)

After completing specific quests, you can speak to Historian Minas on the second floor of the museum to share what you’ve learned. In return, he rewards you with kudos and sometimes an antique lamp that provides additional XP.

Required Quests and Rewards:

  • Basic Quests (5 Kudos Each): Demon Slayer, Rune Mysteries, Shield of Arrav, A Tail of Two Cats, and more. Each of these quests grants 5 kudos.

  • Advanced Quests (10 Kudos Each): Curse of the Empty Lord and Defender of Varrock provide extra experience and kudos.

By completing all the required quests, you can earn a total of 80 kudos.

Total Kudos from Timeline Displays: 80

5. Fossil Displays (72 Kudos)

The Bone Voyage quest unlocks Fossil Island, where you can gather fossils and use them in the museum for kudos. You’ll need to collect, clean, and display fossils in the second basement floor of the Varrock Museum.

  • Obtaining Fossils: Fossils can be collected while performing various activities on Fossil Island, such as mining, woodcutting, or fighting ammonite crabs.

  • Cleaning and Displaying: Head to the cleaning station on Fossil Island to clean your fossils. Then, bring them to the museum and place them in display cases for kudos and an XP lamp as a reward.

Fossil Display Types and Kudos:

  • Small Display (14 cases): Requires 70 small fossils, rewards 28 kudos.

  • Medium Display (12 cases): Requires 60 medium fossils, rewards 24 kudos.

  • Large Display (5 cases): Requires 25 large fossils, rewards 10 kudos.

  • Plant Display (5 cases): Requires 25 large plant fossils, rewards 10 kudos.

In total, this method can yield up to 72 kudos and offers lamps providing up to 120,000 experience in your chosen skills.
