How to Fix Giant Grass and Textures in RoadCraft

If you’re suddenly under attack by skyscraper-sized grass in RoadCraft it can be a real issue, and yes, it’s a wee bit ridiculous.

It seems to be more of an issue on high-end GPUs (especially RTX 50 series); massive grass, flickering trees, and oversized bushes that block your view or even make you sick while driving through compounds.

Luckily, there are a few ways to fight back against nature. Here’s what to try.

Drop Graphics Settings from Ultra

The fastest fix right now is to lower your settings from Ultra to High or Medium.

This reduces the size and rendering distance of foliage, which seems to prevent the bug entirely. If you're using the 4K texture pack or DLSS + Frame Gen, try turning those off as well to narrow down the cause.

Not pretty... but way better than a 40-foot fern slapping you across the windshield.

Roll Back Your GPU Drivers (Especially for RTX 50 Series)

If you’re using an RTX 5080, 5090, or similar, the newest NVIDIA drivers are triggering massive foliage rendering errors.

Try rolling back to an earlier, stable version like 546.33 or 566.36. Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to fully remove the current drivers, then reinstall the older version cleanly.

This has worked for several players instantly.

Recover to Forward Base

Oddly enough, recovering your vehicle seems to sometimes clear the bug temporarily.

If the giant grass appears mid-mission:

  • Open your vehicle menu

  • Choose to Recover back to your forward base

  • Reload and re-enter the zone

This doesn’t always work, but it’s a fast option and doesn’t require messing with settings or drivers.

Check for Floating Textures and Map Bugs

If the grass is just one part of a bigger texture mess (like floating fences, stuttering branches, or flashing terrain), it may be a corrupted install or VRAM overload.

Try verifying files:

  • In Steam, right-click RoadCraft

  • Go to Properties > Installed Files

  • Select Verify Integrity of Game Files

If that doesn’t help, try turning down texture quality or disabling the 4K Texture Pack if you're using it.

General Troubleshooting Tips

  • Disable Steam Overlay: Right-click the game in Steam, go to Properties, and uncheck the overlay box

  • Make sure the game is installed on an SSD. HDD installs are much more prone to asset pop-in and bugs

  • Update or rollback GPU drivers depending on your current version

  • Turn off any third-party overlays like Discord or GeForce Experience performance monitors

  • Restart your system after making changes just to be safe

Final Blurb & FAQ

The giant grass bug in RoadCraft is one of the funnier visual bugs... until it makes it impossible to see where you're going. For now, scaling back graphics settings or switching drivers is your best bet.

Hopefully Saber releases a patch soon, but until then, keep a mower handy... or just recover to base and pretend it never happened.

FAQ

Q: Why is the grass huge in RoadCraft?

It’s a known rendering bug affecting mostly RTX 50 series cards using recent drivers.

Q: How do I fix the large grass issue?

Lower your graphics settings from Ultra, or roll back your GPU driver to an earlier stable version.

Q: Will verifying game files help?

It can help with floating textures or general asset glitches, but may not fix the grass bug by itself.

Q: Does recovering the vehicle remove the bug?

Sometimes. Recovering to your forward base has cleared the issue for some players temporarily.

Q: Is the 4K texture pack causing problems?

Possibly. Try disabling it to see if the grass and foliage return to normal size.
