How to Get a Bone Pickaxe in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

If you've been whacking every rock with your trusty stone pickaxe and wondering why copper just sits there laughing at you, it's time for an upgrade. You’ll need a Bone Pickaxe to mine higher-tier materials like copper—and yes, it’s a real thing in the game. Here's how to get it.

Step 1: Unlock the Recipe

You won’t find the Bone Pickaxe recipe sitting in a treasure chest. Like most gear in Dragonwilds, you unlock it by gathering the right materials:

  • Bones

  • Claws

Once you’ve looted enough of these, the Bone Pickaxe recipe should be able to unlock in your crafting table.

If you're having trouble spotting it, the recipe stays greyed out until you meet the requirements, and it looks pretty similar to the Stone Pickaxe when locked.

Step 2: Craft It

Head to your Crafting Table and look for the Bone Pickaxe under the tools section. If it's still locked, make sure you’ve:

  • Killed some beasts to collect bones

  • Found claws from creatures like wolves or rats

You do not need any bronze or metal for the Bone Pickaxe—just organic loot.

Step 3: Use It to Mine Stuff Like Copper

Once crafted, the Bone Pickaxe can mine Copper Deposits, which the Stone Pickaxe can’t touch. You’ll need both Copper and Tin to smelt your first Bronze Ingots—the first step toward real metal tools and weapons.

Final Blurb

If you’re still stuck swinging a rock-on-a-stick at unbreakable ore, it’s time to dig through your monster parts and check that crafting table again. The Bone Pickaxe won’t mine your future for you, but it’s the next step in getting stronger gear—and finally smelting something other than disappointment.
