Where to Find Vault Cores and Shards in Dragon Wilds

Both come from one place: Vaults.

  • Vault Cores are found at the very end of each Vault. Usually sitting on a pedestal.

  • Vault Shards drop from:

    • Defeating Vault Guardians (big elemental enemies inside vaults)

    • Opening chests in the Vaults

If you’re sneaky (or impatient), you can grab the Core and run. If you’re brave, you can fight every Guardian first. Either way, dying inside a vault just sends you back to your bed—and your loot shows up in a Gravestone outside. So it’s not that risky.

What Vault Cores Are For

These are the rare ones. You’ll mostly use them to build Lodestones, which let you teleport around the world.

Lodestone recipe:

  • 32 Stone

  • 20 Rune Essence

  • 1 Vault Core

Set one up at your base, and you can fast-travel back from anywhere as long as you have the materials to drop a second one. Always carry Core materials when exploring.

What Vault Shards Are For

Shards are more of a building ingredient, especially for advanced crafting stations like the Furnace.

Furnace recipe:

  • 24 Stone

  • 8 Clay (found in Whispering Swamp)

  • 4 Charcoal (made in a Kiln)

  • 10 Fire Runes

  • 8 Vault Shards

It’s a pain to make, but you’ll need it to start turning ores into bars. If you’re not high enough in Runecrafting for Fire Runes, either farm goblins for pouches or grind some lower-level runes until you unlock it.

Final Blurb

Vault Cores are the fast-travel MVP. Vault Shards are the quiet workhorse of high-tier building. Neither is something you want to ignore—or accidentally sell. Grab them, stash them, and spend them wisely. Your future self (and your teleport button) will thank you.
