You can pull Excalibur pretty early in Tainted Grail, but doing it without help takes preparation. The sword drains your health quickly while you try to claim it, and unless you come ready to heal through the pain, you’ll just end up face-first in the mud.

Here’s how to actually get it relatively easily.

Where to Find Excalibur

Head to the Horns of the South. You can find Excalibur stabbed into the ground near the central area.

There’s no combat or boss fight… Or anything really. It’s just waiting to be pulled.

You can try pulling it the moment you see it, but you’ll notice something right away. Your health drops fast.

If you do nothing to counter it, you will die before the pull finishes.

Why You Keep Dying When Pulling It

Trying to grab Excalibur drains your health at a constant rate. The game doesn’t tell you how much you need, and there is no magical stat that lets you resist the drain.

You have to out-heal the damage as it happens. That’s the trick.

So if you want to pull it and earn the “By My Own Hand” achievement or trophy, you’ll need to come with enough healing to survive the full pull.

Best Healing Items to Use

You can technically do this with regular health potions and cooked food, but some options are better than others.

The easiest method is using Queen’s Honey. This item fully restores your health and you can get it by completing the quest “Confrontation Looks Like Hope”… the one where you side with the bees.

Once you join the hive, you’ll be rewarded with a stash of honey. This makes Excalibur nearly effortless to pull.

Just chug the honey whenever your health drops and keep holding the interaction button.

If you don’t have the honey, bring as many high-tier health potions and cooked meals as possible. You’ll need to heal fast and often.

How to Pull the Sword

Once you’re stocked up:

  1. Stand in front of the sword

  2. Start pulling

  3. Watch your health bar

  4. Spam healing items as needed

  5. Don’t let your health drop to zero

Eventually, you’ll succeed and Excalibur will be yours. The moment you pull it, you’ll unlock the achievement for doing it solo.

Final Blurb & FAQ

Getting Excalibur is quite literally just a healing check.

If you try to tank it, you’ll die. If you bring good healing, you’ll walk away with the most iconic sword in Avalon.

Queen’s Honey makes it easy, but even without it, a backpack full of potions will do the job just fine.
