How to Skip and Pause Cutscenes in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

If you’re stuck fighting the same boss and keep dying, you’ve probably had to sit through the same cutscene over and over. Let’s fix that. Here’s how to pause and skip cutscenes properly on every platform. The game does not explain this clearly, and the buttons are not what most players expect.
How to Pause Cutscenes
PC (Keyboard and Mouse)
Press F to pause during a cutscene.
This is not a normal pause key, and most players miss it. F is usually an interaction key, but in Expedition 33, it works to pause scenes too.
PlayStation (PS5)
Press X to pause.
Some players also reported that pressing the screenshot button will pause the cutscene as well, but X is the main method.
Xbox
Press A to pause.
Like PS5, the main confirm button doubles as pause during cutscenes.
Once paused, the game shows a menu where you can resume or move on to skipping.
How to Skip Cutscenes in Expedition 33
First, pause the cutscene using the methods above.
Then, press and hold ESC (on PC) or the Menu/Options button (on consoles) when the pause screen is open.
After a moment, the cutscene will skip.
Trying to press ESC or the Menu button directly during a cutscene will usually do nothing, which is why you have to pause first.
Why the Controls Are Confusing
Expedition 33 does not use typical cutscene controls.
Most players try ESC, Enter, or Right Click on PC and nothing happens.
Console players expect Options or Start to pause but instead must use the confirm button.
If you remapped your keys, note that the F key or its console equivalent will still be the pause button by default.
Final Blurb
The cutscene controls in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 are needlessly weird, but once you know them, you can finally stop watching the same boss intro fifty times. Pause with F, X, or A, then skip if you’re ready to get back to the fight.
