Loftia How to Get Rattan

Rattan is an important early crafting material in Loftia, particularly when you're working toward better tools and equipment. You'll need it for the Collector Rod, Hammer Lv.2, and several other projects, but it's easy to overlook the plants that provide it while exploring the Hanging Gardens. Once you recognize the correct trees and have the necessary tool, gathering enough Rattan for your next upgrade becomes much more straightforward.

How to Get Rattan in Loftia

To get Rattan in Loftia, travel to the Hanging Gardens and harvest Rattan Tree Spots using Pruners. These are small trees with palm-like leaves, and each successful harvest gives either 1 or 2 Rattan.

You can find these trees throughout five areas of the Hanging Gardens:

  • Upper Village
  • Bamboo Forest
  • Overgrowth
  • Central Lake
  • The Grove

For your first collection trip, I recommend checking the Bamboo Forest and Upper Village. Both areas are confirmed places to gather Rattan during the early Hanging Gardens progression.

The Hanging Gardens map contains 51 recorded Rattan Tree Spot locations, so you aren't limited to a single small gathering area.

What Do Rattan Trees Look Like?

Look for relatively small trees with leaves resembling those of a palm. They're different from the ordinary loose materials you might collect from the ground.

You'll need to use Pruners on these trees to collect the Rattan. If you're searching for individual Rattan items lying around, you may be overlooking the actual resource nodes.

How to Get Pruners for Rattan

You need Pruners before you can harvest Rattan Tree Spots.

During the early Hanging Gardens progression, you'll be directed to craft tools while completing tasks for characters including Kassim.

To obtain the materials for Pruners, visit the Scrap Quarters and collect Screws and Plastic Discards. These are identified as materials needed for crafting the tool.

Once you've crafted your Pruners, return to the Hanging Gardens and use them on the small Rattan trees.

If you're progressing through the early story, reaching the Hanging Gardens involves speaking with Cliff and using the airtram. Once there, you can begin exploring its different gathering areas.

Best Way to Farm Rattan in Loftia

Rattan is a relatively accessible material once you have Pruners. The individual trees don't always give the same amount, but their reported respawn time is short enough to make repeated gathering practical.

Rattan Drop Rates and Respawn Time

Harvest Result Chance
1 Rattan 75%
2 Rattan 25%
Respawn time Approximately 5 minutes

Based on those drop rates, a successful tree harvest provides an average of 1.25 Rattan.

For example, if you need 10 Rattan for Hammer Lv.2, it will take between 5 and 10 successful tree harvests, depending on how many trees provide the bonus piece.

That means you can gather a useful quantity without needing to clear all 51 marked locations.

An Efficient Gathering Strategy

Start with the trees available in Upper Village and Bamboo Forest. Harvest the ones you find, then check another Hanging Gardens area if you still need more.

Because Rattan Tree Spots reportedly respawn after approximately five minutes, you can revisit previously harvested trees rather than searching endlessly for untouched locations.

If you're already completing tasks around Central Lake, The Grove, or Overgrowth, collect any Rattan you encounter along the way.

There's no need to make repeated trips exclusively for Rattan if you're still gathering other materials for nearby crafting objectives.

How Much Rattan Do You Need for Early Upgrades?

Two important early crafting projects require Rattan: Hammer Lv.2 and the Collector Rod.

Rather than repeatedly returning to the Hanging Gardens for a few extra pieces, you can gather enough for both during the same visit.

Crafting Goal Rattan Needed
Collector Rod 5
Hammer Lv.2 10
Collector Rod + Hammer Lv.2 15 total
Both tools + Eco Weave research contribution 16 total

Collecting 16 Rattan gives you enough for both tools and the one Rattan required by the Eco Weave bundle at the Central Lake Research Station.

Rattan for Hammer Lv.2

Hammer Lv.2 is particularly important because it lets you progress toward more advanced salvage equipment.

The documented crafting recipe requires:

  • 1 Hammer
  • 10 Rattan
  • 10 Copper Scraps
  • 2 Rubber

You'll need a Project Station Lv.2 to craft it.

Copper Scraps can be obtained from metal boxes in areas including Lower Village, Upper Village, and The Grove. Rubber can be crafted from Tires at a Refining Station.

Hammer Lv.2 is also a necessary step toward Hammer Lv.3, which becomes important for gathering resources such as Carbon Fiber later.

Rattan for the Collector Rod

The Collector Rod requires:

  • 5 Rattan
  • 5 Jute
  • 1 Plastic Sheet

You can craft it at a Project Station Lv.1.

Jute can be gathered from ropes found around the Hanging Gardens or obtained by breaking baskets. The Collector Rod is part of your early progression toward fishing, including objectives involving Kassim.

What Is Rattan Used for in Loftia?

Beyond tool upgrades, Rattan is used in furniture, clothing, refined materials, and other crafting projects.

It's worth keeping some spare pieces if you're interested in decorating your home or crafting additional equipment.

Rattan Crafting Requirements

Rattan Required Items
2 Bamboo Sandals
4 Bamboo Bed, Bamboo Dresser, Bamboo Armchair, Bamboo Desk Candle
5 Collector Rod, Flexible Lumber, Enchanted Crown
6 Bamboo Side Table
10 Hammer Lv.2, Seed Maker
75 Whimsical Bandana, Scarecrow Top, Rainbow Poncho, Flower Power Glasses

Rattan is also needed for the Eco Weave bundle at the Central Lake Research Station, which requires one piece.

Can You Sell Rattan?

Rattan is classified as a common material, but it cannot be sold according to the available item data.

Its primary value comes from crafting and research contributions. If you have extra Rattan, keeping it for future projects can be more useful than trying to convert it into currency.

Should You Farm Extra Rattan?

If you're only interested in your next tool upgrade, there's little reason to spend a long time gathering beyond what you need.

However, collecting a few extra pieces makes sense if you're planning to craft furniture or unlock the Seed Maker. Larger clothing projects can require 75 Rattan each, so those are better treated as separate gathering goals rather than part of your first upgrade trip.

For most early-game players, I recommend collecting 15-16 Rattan before leaving the Hanging Gardens. That's enough for the Collector Rod, Hammer Lv.2, and optionally the Eco Weave research contribution. Once those priorities are handled, you can return to the area's plentiful Rattan trees whenever another project calls for more.
