MultiVersus Comes to an End with Season 5

Well, that’s all, folks. MultiVersus is officially winding down, with Season 5 being its final update. After that, the game will vanish like a Looney Tunes character running off a cliff—poof, gone.

What’s Happening?

Developer Player First Games has confirmed the rumors: MultiVersus will get its last content update with Season 5, starting on February 4th and ending on May 30th. Once the season ends, the game will no longer be playable online, and it will also disappear from digital storefronts. If you didn’t download it before then, well, too bad.

Who’s Joining the Roster?

Season 5 will bring Aquaman and Lola Bunny, because nothing says “final hurrah” like adding two characters the community has been expecting for ages. The good news is all Season 5 content can be unlocked through gameplay—assuming you still have the energy to grind for a game that’s packing its bags.

Can You Still Play Offline?

Yes, but there’s a catch. To keep playing offline after May 30th, you’ll need to log in during Season 5 to generate local save data. No login, no offline mode. If you forget, MultiVersus won’t just be dead online—it’ll be dead to you entirely.

No More Microtransactions

As of January 31st, all real-money transactions are disabled. If you still have Gleamium or character tokens, you can spend them until the game goes offline, but you won’t be able to buy more. At least they’re not trying to milk the last few cents out of players before shutting the doors.

A Sad Goodbye (That We All Saw Coming)

The developers posted a heartfelt message thanking players for their support. It’s clear they put a lot of work into the game, but with player numbers shrinking like a shrinking potion from Acme Corp, the writing was on the wall.

Final Blurb

MultiVersus had a great start, but after its long open beta and shaky relaunch in May 2024, it never quite bounced back. Warner Bros. even admitted the game “significantly underperformed,” and with only 336 players on Steam at the time of writing, things weren’t looking good.

Season 5 is the game’s last chance to make an impact. If it flops, MultiVersus will go down as another free-to-play experiment that didn’t quite stick the landing. If you’re still playing, enjoy it while you can—because soon, it’ll be gone faster than Shaggy in a haunted house.
