Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2, sharing exciting details about the next generation of its popular console. Here's a simple rundown of everything they revealed.

Release Date

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025. While we don’t have an exact date, Nintendo has hinted that the console won't be released before June. This is because hands-on events will run until June 1, 2025.

Bigger and Better Design

The new console is larger than the original Switch, including its screen and controllers. While we don’t have exact measurements yet, it’s clear the Switch 2 will feel bigger in your hands.

New Joy-Con Features

The Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers attach to the console using a magnetic snap-on system instead of rails. This should make them easier to use.

One of the most exciting changes is that the Joy-Con can work like a mouse. Nintendo hasn’t fully explained how this will work, but it’s a new way to interact with games.

There’s also a mysterious new square button on the right Joy-Con. It hasn’t been labeled yet, so its purpose is still a mystery.

Two USB-C Ports

The Switch 2 includes two USB-C ports—one at the top and one at the bottom. This is an improvement from the original Switch, which only had one.

Backward Compatibility

The Switch 2 will play physical and digital games from the original Switch library, along with exclusive new games. However, some older Switch games might not work perfectly on the new console.

A New Mario Kart Game

Nintendo teased a brand-new Mario Kart game during the reveal. Fans believe this could be Mario Kart 9, but details are still limited.

What’s Next?

Nintendo will host a special Switch 2 Direct on April 2, 2025. This event will likely share more about the console and its launch lineup. Additionally, fans can try out the console early at hands-on events happening worldwide before June.

The Nintendo Switch 2 brings exciting new features, and fans are eager to learn more. Whether it’s the larger screen, the new Joy-Con features, or the upcoming games, there’s a lot to look forward to.

Stay tuned for more updates in April!
