Oblivion Remastered: How to Craft Potions Guide

If you're tired of chugging random potions you found in a goblin cave, it might be time to make your own. Crafting potions and poisons in Oblivion Remastered is pretty simple—once you know where to find the tools and how not to accidentally drink your own poison.

Here’s how to get started as Cyrodiil’s next top alchemist.

How to Unlock Potion and Poison Crafting

Before you start mixing mushrooms and hoping for the best, you’ll need at least one thing: a Mortar & Pestle.

  • You can find a Novice Mortar & Pestle early in the tutorial, but if you missed it, don’t panic.

  • Head to Chorrol after escaping the sewers.

  • Join the Mage’s Guild by talking to Teekeeus.

  • Inside the guild, there’s a stash of free alchemy tools—just walk into the side room and help yourself. No stealing charges if you're a member.

For better potions, grab the full set:

  • Mortar & Pestle (required)

  • Calcinator

  • Retort

  • Alembic

These extras improve your potion quality, so they're worth hoarding.

How to Craft Potions and Poisons

Once you’ve got your gear:

  1. Open your Inventory.

  2. Go to the Alchemy tab and select your Mortar & Pestle.

  3. The crafting menu will pop up, showing your ingredients.

  4. Combine at least two ingredients that share the same effect.

  • Restore effects = Potions.

  • Damage effects = Poisons.

Your shiny new concoctions will land back in your inventory, ready to heal—or harm.

Easy Potion and Poison Recipes

Here are some beginner-friendly mixes so you don’t blow yourself up:

Restore Health

  • Any combo of these:

    • Venison

    • Fly Amanita Caps

    • Aloe Vera Leaves

    • Boar Meat

    • Mugwort Seeds

    • Cheese Wheel

Restore Magicka

  • Flax Seeds

  • Steel-Blue Entoloma Cap

  • Void Salts

Damage Fatigue

  • Rat Meat

  • Mort Flesh

  • Bonemeal

Damage Health (Poison)

  • Bone Marrow

  • Stinkhorn Cap

  • Nightshade

Final Blurb

And there you go—you’re now qualified to throw together suspicious liquids like a true adventurer. Just remember: not every glowing green bottle is a good idea to drink. Happy brewing!
