OSRS Greater Demon Slayer Guide: Best Locations

OSRS Greater Demon Slayer Guide: Best Locations

Greater demons are one of the more straightforward Slayer tasks in OSRS because they have no Slayer level requirement, hit only with melee, and can be killed in several strong locations depending on what your run or setup actually needs. The real choice is not whether the task is viable. It is whether you want faster kills, better AFK, Wilderness extras, Catacombs drops, or a stronger Greater Demon variant that pushes the task harder.

Best Place To Kill Greater Demons In OSRS

The best place to kill greater demons in OSRS is usually the Chasm of Fire for fast cannon tasks or the Catacombs of Kourend for easier AFK and better side drops.

Those 2 locations cover most players because they solve different versions of the same task. Chasm of Fire is stronger when the goal is speed. The room is compact, it is cannonable, it is safespottable, and Fairy Ring DJR makes getting there easy. Catacombs of Kourend is stronger when the goal is getting through the task with less effort while also picking up ancient shards and dark totem pieces. It is multicombat, the demons stay aggressive until the timer expires, and aggression is easy to reset.

If the task is from Konar, the location may be fixed. If it is not, those are the 2 most useful places to start with.

Greater Demon Task Requirements And Task Size

Greater demons do not require any Slayer level. The usual starting point is combat level 70 for task assignment, and task size depends on the Slayer master. Krystilia assigns 100 to 150. Chaeldar assigns 70 to 130. Konar assigns 120 to 170. Nieve and Steve assign 120 to 185. Duradel and Kuradal assign 130 to 200. If Greater Challenge is unlocked, task size becomes 200 to 250.

That matters because the task is long enough that location choice changes how the whole thing feels. A fast cannon spot turns it into a much shorter job. A weaker location makes it drag.

Best Greater Demon Locations For Slayer

Chasm of Fire is the best all around speed option for a normal task. It has 16 greater demons, it is cannonable, it is safespottable, and the Fairy Ring route is simple. If the plan is to get through the task quickly with range or magic while the cannon does steady work, this is the cleanest answer for most players. It also has contracts if you have spoken to Yama after A Kingdom Divided, which gives the area extra value beyond the task itself.

Catacombs of Kourend is the best all around utility option. It has 13 greater demons, is multicombat, and drops ancient shards and dark totem pieces. This is the better spot when you want the task to also feed Arclight charges or future Skotizo access. It is also one of the easiest places to AFK greater demons because the aggression reset is simple and the room layout supports safespotting too.

Karuulm Slayer Dungeon is strong if the goal is another cannon task in a compact room. It has 9 greater demons, is safespottable, and works well for players who want a controlled cannon setup without going to Chasm of Fire. It is still slower than Chasm of Fire in most cases because there are fewer spawns, but it is a real option.

Isle of Souls Dungeon is usable, though it is a step down from Chasm of Fire. It has 7 greater demons, is cannonable, and has a safespot behind the rocks on the eastern side of the inner wall. The main problem is consistency. A lesser demon can interrupt the task flow, and the room is just not as efficient as the better options.

Wilderness Slayer Cave is excellent if you are doing a Krystilia task and actually want Wilderness value. It has 10 greater demons, is multicombat, cannonable, and safespottable. It also has the Wilderness Slayer Cave drop table and can drop Larran’s keys and Slayer’s enchantment while on task. The tradeoff is obvious. You are in level 28 Wilderness and can get interrupted by PKers.

Best Greater Demon Task For AFK

Catacombs of Kourend is the best Greater Demon task location for AFK.

The multicombat setup is the reason. Greater demons in the Catacombs are aggressive, the room is easy to work with, and you can let the task run until the aggression timer expires, then reset it by moving away and back. That makes Catacombs much more relaxed than the single combat cannon spots, especially if the goal is to park on Protect from Melee and get through the task with less clicking.

You also leave with ancient shard and dark totem progress, which is much better than spending the same time in a location that gives nothing extra.

Best Greater Demon Task For Speed

Chasm of Fire is the best Greater Demon task location for speed.

The area is compact, cannonable, and safespottable, which is exactly what a fast Slayer task wants. Greater demons there can also drop contracts if you have spoken to Yama after A Kingdom Divided, so the task can still hand back something useful while moving quickly.

If the task is only being judged on how fast it can be finished, Chasm of Fire is usually the first place to pick.

Wilderness Greater Demons: When They Are Worth It

The Wilderness Slayer Cave is the only Wilderness greater demon spot that really earns the risk for most players. It is level 28 Wilderness, both cannonable and multicombat, and one of the only places where greater demons can be farmed that aggressively while also giving Wilderness specific tertiary drops. Larran’s keys alone make the cave much more valuable than regular greater demons elsewhere.

Demonic Ruins and Lava Maze Dungeon are much weaker by comparison. Demonic Ruins is deep Wilderness, multicombat, unsafe, and a popular teleport destination. Lava Maze Dungeon is single combat, but only has 3 greater demons and asks for more travel. If your task is in the Wilderness and you are not using the Slayer Cave, you usually have a worse version of the task.

Best Special Options On A Greater Demon Task

Greater demon tasks have a few important variants that are easy to miss.

Tormented Demons count for greater demon tasks after While Guthix Sleeps. They are much harder than standard greater demons and require 2 combat styles, but they give 1,065 Slayer XP per kill and can drop the tormented synapse. That makes them one of the best high value options if your run is already strong enough to kill them efficiently and you actually want demonbane progression.

Skotizo also counts, and he requires a dark totem. If you are already doing greater demons in the Catacombs, that connection is obvious. The same task that feeds totem pieces can later be converted into Skotizo kills. K’ril Tsutsaroth counts as well, and so does his bodyguard Tstanon Karlak. That gives greater demon tasks a lot more flexibility than they first appear to have.

Greater Demon Drops Worth Caring About

Greater demons are not a premium money task. Their most notable regular drops are the rune full helm and the hard clue scroll. The average kill value is 669.94 coins normally, or 1,635.71 on a Konar task. That is why the task is usually chosen for speed, Catacombs utility, or Wilderness extras instead of for raw profit.

The Wilderness Slayer Cave is the exception because its extra drop table changes the value of the task a lot. Blighted supplies, teleports, scrolls, and the chance at Wilderness specific tertiary drops give that version of the task far more payoff if you are willing to deal with the risk.

Locations To Skip

Entrana Dungeon is not worth using. Entrana blocks you from bringing normal weapons and armour, which kills the task before it starts. Ogre Enclave is also a bad choice for most players because the layout is awkward and several demons are stuck behind a fence, pushing the task into ranged or halberd only nonsense when better locations exist. Brimhaven Dungeon is usable, but the spawns are spread out enough that it falls behind the real task spots unless Konar sends you there.

Final Blurb

Greater demons are one of the simpler Slayer tasks in OSRS, but the location still decides whether the task is fast, AFK, or just annoying. Chasm of Fire is the best speed spot. Catacombs of Kourend is the best AFK and side value spot. Wilderness Slayer Cave is the best Wilderness version if you want keys and extra drops badly enough to accept the risk. If the task is not tied to Konar or Krystilia, those 3 places cover almost every good reason to do greater demons at all.
