Cockatrice tasks in Leagues 6 can feel straight up bugged when you first get one in Varlamore. You look around, check the usual spots, and nothing lines up. The reason is simple, the game is pointing you to a different version than you expect, and until you know where that is, it feels like they do not exist.
Where To Find Cockatrice In Leagues 6
Cockatrice in OSRS Leagues 6 Varlamore are found as Moonlight cockatrice inside the Earthbound Cavern in Neypotzli (north Cam Torum, see map below).
This is not the standard Fremennik Slayer Cave version. In Leagues, your task is completed by killing the Varlamore variant, which is tucked inside the Perilous Moons area. Once you enter the Earthbound Cavern, you will start seeing Moonlight cockatrice mixed in with other creatures, and those count fully for your Slayer progress.
How You Actually Unlock Them
The main issue is access. You can be assigned cockatrice before you are even able to reach them, which is why so many people get stuck here.
To reach the Earthbound Cavern, you need to push into the Perilous Moons content in Neypotzli. That requires partial progression and a higher Slayer level just to enter the area, even though the cockatrice themselves only require 25 Slayer to kill
Until you reach that point, there is no workaround and no alternate location in Varlamore. Once you unlock it, though, the task immediately becomes straightforward.
What Fighting Them Feels Like
The fight itself is easy, but only if you bring the one item that actually matters.
Cockatrice rely almost entirely on their gaze mechanic, which drains your combat stats every hit if you are not protected. That means even safespotting will not save you. You need a mirror shield or V’s shield equipped or your stats will get shredded constantly
With the shield on, the fight becomes very relaxed. Their damage is low, their stats are nothing special, and you can just stand your ground and clear them quickly.
Why This Task Feels Confusing In Leagues
This is one of those classic Leagues situations where the task system does not line up with your current unlocks. You get assigned cockatrice based on Slayer level, but the actual location is locked behind different progression.
So what happens is you get the task early, search everywhere, and assume something is wrong. In reality, the game is expecting you to move forward into Perilous Moons before coming back to finish it.
Once you understand that, the confusion goes away completely.
Are They Worth Doing
They are not a standout money maker, but they are fast and consistent. The drops are decent for early and mid progression, and because they are easy to kill once set up properly, the task clears quickly without draining supplies.
In a Leagues run where efficiency matters more than anything, that alone makes them worth doing.
