OSRS Sailing Manta Ray Guide

Lil ray in combat

The manta ray is one of the strongest creatures roaming the deep ocean in the Sailing update. They might look peaceful, but each one can wreck an unprepared crew fast.

Where to Find Manta Rays

Manta rays spawn in the Everdeep and Southern Expanse. Both areas are members-only and require high Sailing levels to reach safely. Each manta ray is level 114 combat and takes up a 3x3 tile space. They are not aggressive unless attacked first, which gives time to position your ship.

Manta Ray Combat Info

They attack using slash-based melee strikes and hit up to 8 damage every four ticks. They cannot poison you, but they are immune to venom and strong burns. Using ranged or magic attacks is ideal since their melee defense can drag out fights.

They don’t move far once locked in combat, so they’re perfect for long grind sessions or crew rotations. If you’re farming multiples at once, use Protect from Melee to reduce chip damage.

Loot Highlights

Each manta ray drops bones and a range of valuable items. Their main loot comes from rare herb seeds, raw manta rays, fragments, and the manta ray skin. The skin is their signature drop and can be used for crafting or sold for profit.

Players often target manta rays for consistent raw manta ray drops since they’re one of the best healing foods in the game. Herb seeds like ranarr, snapdragon, and torstol make the trip even more rewarding.

How to Farm Them Efficiently

  • Use ranged or magic setups for faster kills

  • Bring a few strong food items since fights can drag

  • Keep inventory space open for noted drops and seeds

  • Use crew boosts that increase ranged accuracy or XP

  • Stay near your helm so loot doesn’t get lost overboard

Final Blurb

Manta rays are the kind of fight that keeps Sailing exciting. They hit hard, drop great loot like ray burbs, and reward every bit of effort you put in. Once your crew can handle level 100+ enemies, they’re one of the best ocean grinds out there for GP and XP alike.
