Pilot skill affects the quality of your gravship launches in RimWorld Odyssey. Low skill or bad setup can cause ship damage when you take off. A high-quality launch avoids malfunctions and keeps your gravship in one piece.

How Launch Quality Works

When you launch your ship, the game gives your launch a quality score. This score decides if anything breaks mid-flight. A bad score can cause damaged parts or system failures that you’ll need to repair after landing.

Launch quality depends on:

  • Pilot skill of the pawn using the Pilot Console

  • Crew count on board

  • Number of thrusters installed

  • Whether your console setup is complete

Only the pawn at the Pilot Console matters for skill. The rest just need to be inside the gravship when you launch.

How to Use the Pilot Console

You need a working Pilot Console to launch the ship. It's one of the three required parts, along with a Chemfuel Tank and at least four small thrusters.

To launch:

  1. Fill your Chemfuel Tank with at least 50 fuel

  2. Assign a pawn to use the Pilot Console

  3. Make sure all thrusters have clear space behind them

  4. Select your destination on the map

  5. Hit launch

The better the pilot, the fewer problems you’ll run into when taking off.

Best Setup for Launch Success

  • Use your highest-skill pawn at the console before launch

  • Keep crew count up to improve launch rating

  • Use large thrusters when possible

  • Don’t launch with broken or missing ship parts

  • Make sure your console is powered and properly placed

The game doesn’t show exact launch score numbers, but higher skill clearly reduces mid-flight issues.

What Happens on a Bad Launch

A failed launch won’t destroy your ship, but it can cause:

  • Damaged systems

  • Broken walls or furniture

  • Power or subsystem failure

  • Random problems that need fixing after you land

You can still continue, but it’ll take time and resources to repair.

Final Blurb

If your gravship keeps falling apart after takeoff, check your pilot. Skill makes a difference. The right pawn at the Pilot Console is the cheapest upgrade you can get.
