Should You Attack or Help Demineur in Expedition 33?

In Expedition 33, the Demineur Quest gives you a choice—help a sad, mine-less Demineur, or attack it and take the rewards by force. Both paths have their perks, but only one gets you the best of both worlds.
Where to Find the Demineur
You’ll stumble across this lonely Demineur in Flying Waters, just past Noco’s Hut Rest Point Flag. Head northwest into the open area, then look for a big circular entrance on the northern side. Inside, you’ll find the pale Demineur—missing its signature underwater mine and looking more confused than dangerous.
How to Complete the Demineur Quest
When you talk to the Demineur, pick Examine instead of attacking. This starts the side quest to find its missing Intact Mine.
Head east from the Demineur’s spot.
Look for rock pillars you can jump across (don’t worry, the game’s mantle system forgives sloppy jumps).
Reach the glowing purple item—that’s your Intact Mine.
Bring it back to the Demineur for your reward:
Level 3 Deminerim Weapon for Lune
What Happens if You Attack the Demineur
If you attack before helping, you’ll miss out on Lune’s weapon forever. All you’ll get is:
3x Colour of Lumina
1x Chroma Catalyst
But here’s the smart move—complete the quest first, then attack. After helping him, you can still pick a fight and grab both the quest reward and the battle loot. Efficiency at its finest.
How to Beat the Demineur
Watch out for his thunder strike. The trick?
Listen for a missile-like sound cue.
The camera will zoom out slightly right before the hit—dodge or parry then.
Shoot his mine with Free Aim to deal solid damage for just 1 AP.
Use Lightning damage to exploit his weakness:
Gustave’s Marking Shot and Overcharge
Lune’s Thunderfall and Electrify
Don’t give him a chance to swing his mine at you—end it fast and clean.
Demineur Quest Rewards Recap
If you play it right, you’ll walk away with:
Level 3 Deminerim Weapon (Lune)
3x Colour of Lumina
1x Chroma Catalyst
Final Blurb
The Demineur might look like a harmless NPC, but this is Expedition 33—nothing stays peaceful for long. Help him first, then hit him where it hurts. It’s not cruel if it’s efficient... right?
