How to Start the Gift of Gab Quest
You can pick up the quest called Gift of Gab: Silver Tongue from the NPC Song Jiu in Heaven’s Pier village.
He asks for help retrieving his stolen Inner Ways manual, which leads you to the Northern Vow Ruins. When you arrive, you’ll meet the pipa player He Wanchun, who challenges you to a debate instead of a fight.
How the Debate System Works
The debate plays out like a small card game. You and your opponent have a Mental Focus bar that acts as health, and each card you use either damages the opponent’s focus or buffs your own.
Your Inspiration points at the bottom of the screen are your resource. Cards require Inspiration to play, so manage it carefully to avoid running dry mid turn.
Winning Strategy for the Debate
The easiest way to win is to follow Song Jiu’s early tip and use shield cards frequently.
Stack the shield card each turn to build both damage and defense over time
Watch for the Contradict icon that appears randomly and use it as soon as possible since it buffs you and weakens your opponent
Pay attention to the quick time events on the left and right sides of the screen, and hit the first button prompt quickly for bonus burst damage
If you do this correctly, you can outlast He Wanchun even on higher difficulties since his strongest attacks come late in the round when your defense is already stacked.
Helpful Tips
Reading every card is good, but the debate moves fast. Try to learn each card’s effect during practice so you can react quickly.
Wild Boasts is the first special skill you unlock, but later you can swap to other rhetoric styles that fit your play style better like GB-Proxy. These change how you gain Inspiration and what effects your Contradict moves apply.
