Wildgate Beginners Guide
Written by Andrew Hammel | Wildgate
Wildgate is a team-based PvP game focused on ship combat, boarding fights, and artifact recovery. You control a crew of prospectors, choose a ship, and work together to survive matches filled with other crews and environmental threats.
Winning requires coordination, good role choices, and smart use of your ship.
Game Modes
Artifact Hunt
The main mode. Five crews of four fight to either be the last ship standing or secure the Artifact and escape through the Wildgate.
Versus AI
Practice against AI crews with live teammates. Good for learning without heavy pressure.
Firing Range
Test weapons, ship tools, and gadgets safely.
Tutorial
Introduces movement, ship systems, and boarding mechanics.
Prospectors and Roles
Prospectors are your playable characters. Each has unique traits and health values.
Venture (Explorer): Heals faster outside ships, robot body ignores oxygen.
Sammo (Defender): Sees enemies through walls on your ship and heals fully when killing intruders.
Sal (Engineer): Repairs multiple parts at once and recycles items for random gear.
Ion (Boarder): High melee damage, destroys ship parts fast.
Mophs (Stealth Boarder): Temporary camouflage and high flight speed but low health.
Adrian (Boarder): Jet pack mobility for quick insertions.
Kae (Boarder): Telekinetic interaction and one-time teleport for fast repositioning.
Choose a prospector that complements your team’s plan. Boarders excel at invading enemy ships, defenders protect your own, and engineers keep systems running.
Ships
Each ship type has unique traits:
Hunter: Gun-focused ship with fast shield resets.
Bastion: High health and secure doors for defense.
Privateer: Heavy front gun firepower with faster projectiles.
Scout: High speed and agility for quick plays.
Infamy and Progression
Infamy is an optional rank system that tracks competitive performance. Equip the Infamy badge to start earning points. Wins grant points, while losses only matter once you reach Marauder rank or higher. Monthly resets clear ranks, but any earned titles stay forever.
Progression also includes cosmetic rewards from Scrap Crates and Streak challenges. Scrap Crates give fixed cosmetic items and XP when found in matches. Streaks and Milestones award unique titles for achievements like consecutive wins or artifact captures.
Beginner Tips
Learn Your Role: Pick one prospector and get comfortable with their abilities.
Communicate: Use voice or quick pings to coordinate piloting, repairs, and boarding.
Defend Your Ship: Secure doors and repair damage quickly. A destroyed ship ends your match.
Use the Tutorial: It explains ship functions and basic boarding without pressure.
Focus on Objectives: Artifact wins or last-ship-standing both count. Choose what fits your situation.
Final Blurb
Wildgate blends teamwork-heavy ship battles with boarding combat and objective play. Start by picking a prospector that fits your style, learn how your ship handles, and focus on communication. With a good crew and an understanding of roles, you’ll be ready to handle the Reach and its competition.
