Finding a good Light Hide farm in WoW Forever can be surprisingly difficult, especially when Leatherworking recipes start requiring the material before you've collected much of it. Light Hide is considerably rarer than ordinary leather, and spending hours skinning the wrong enemies can leave you with very little to show for it. Fortunately, both Alliance and Horde players have several farming locations worth targeting, including outdoor zones and dungeons with plenty of skinnable creatures.

Where Are the Best Places to Farm Light Hide in WoW Forever?
The best places to farm Light Hide in WoW Forever include Westfall, Darkshore, Loch Modan, and Redridge Mountains for Alliance players, along with the Barrens and Silverpine Forest for Horde players. Wailing Caverns is another option if you prefer farming skinnable dungeon enemies.
To obtain Light Hide directly from enemies, you need the Skinning profession. Kill and loot suitable beasts, then skin their corpses for a chance at the material.
Here are the most useful farming locations and creatures to look for:
| Location | Faction | Creatures to Farm |
|---|---|---|
| Westfall | Alliance | Young Goretusks, Goretusks |
| Darkshore | Alliance | Moonstalkers, Moonstalker Sires, Foreststriders, Thistle Bears |
| Loch Modan | Alliance | Mountain Boars, Black Bears |
| Redridge Mountains | Alliance | Great Goretusks |
| The Barrens | Horde | Savannah Patriarchs, Deviate Stalkers, Deviate Slayers |
| Silverpine Forest | Horde | Ferocious Grizzled Bears, Giant Grizzled Bears, Worgs |
| Wailing Caverns | Both | Deviate Pythons, Adders, Ravagers and other skinnable creatures |
For most players, I recommend starting in a nearby level 10–20 questing zone rather than traveling across Azeroth solely to farm hides. If you're already able to handle enemies around level 16–20, those are particularly worthwhile targets based on reported farming results.
Best Alliance Light Hide Farming Locations
Westfall: Goretusks
Westfall is an excellent starting point for Alliance players who are already questing near Stormwind.
Look for Young Goretusks and Goretusks in the farmland surrounding Saldean's Farm and nearby fields. These boars are commonly encountered while completing quests in the zone, allowing you to collect skins without abandoning your normal leveling route.
Goretusks are generally found around the low-to-mid teens, making them suitable for characters progressing through Westfall.
One WoW Forever player reported obtaining several Light Hides while skinning boars in Westfall, particularly from enemies around level 16 and above.
A practical farming route is to clear skinnable boars around the fields near Saldean's Farm, continue toward the surrounding farmland, and return as enemies respawn.
This is the location I'd prioritize for a Human character leveling Skinning and Leatherworking together.
Darkshore: Moonstalkers and Foreststriders
Darkshore is a convenient choice for Night Elf players or anyone already questing around Auberdine.
Several types of beasts in the zone fall within the Light Hide skinning range, including Moonstalkers, Foreststriders, and Thistle Bears.
For higher-level targets, focus on Moonstalker Sires and Grizzled Thistle Bears in southern Darkshore, particularly around the Wildbend River and the areas approaching the Ashenvale border.
Moonstalker Sires are approximately level 17–18, placing them within the range where players have reported finding Light Hide.
You can also skin suitable Foreststriders and other beasts encountered between farming targets.
Darkshore is especially useful if you're a Night Elf who wants to farm hides without traveling to the Eastern Kingdoms.
Loch Modan: Mountain Boars and Bears
Loch Modan gives Dwarf and Gnome players another practical Light Hide farming option.
Look for Mangy Mountain Boars, Elder Mountain Boars, and Black Bears throughout the zone.
Some of the higher-level options, such as Elder Mountain Boars and Black Bear Patriarchs, are around level 17.
These creatures provide an alternative to Westfall if you're already progressing through Loch Modan or want to continue leveling Skinning while collecting useful materials.
I would prioritize whichever concentration of suitable boars and bears you can kill and skin consistently rather than spending time crossing the entire zone for individual enemies.
Redridge Mountains: Great Goretusks
Redridge Mountains is worth visiting once you've progressed beyond the earliest Leatherworking levels.
Great Goretusks are approximately level 17 and provide another possible source of Light Hide through Skinning.
The zone is particularly convenient if you've already finished most of Westfall and are continuing your Alliance questing progression near Lakeshire.
Because Redridge also contains tougher enemies, it's generally a better choice once your character is comfortable fighting beasts in the upper teens.
If you're still very low-level, Westfall or Loch Modan may be more convenient starting locations.
Best Horde Light Hide Farming Locations
The Barrens: Savannah Beasts and Deviate Creatures
The Barrens is one of the strongest Horde options because it contains a wide variety of skinnable enemies throughout the level range associated with Light Hide.
Useful targets include:
- Savannah Prowlers and Savannah Patriarchs
- Deviate Stalkers and Deviate Slayers
- Hecklefang Hyenas
- Other suitable skinnable beasts encountered while questing
Savannah Patriarchs are approximately level 16, while Deviate Stalkers and Slayers can be found around level 17.
For a more focused route, begin with the savannah beasts you encounter around the Crossroads region and work toward the Wailing Caverns area, where Deviate creatures provide additional skinning opportunities.
Multiple Forever players have reported obtaining Light Hide in the Barrens, including one from a level 12 beast and another who collected seven while questing and skinning in the zone.
Those experiences establish that Light Hide is obtainable here, although they don't establish a guaranteed yield.
Silverpine Forest: Grizzled Bears and Worgs
Silverpine Forest is a useful alternative for Undead players who don't want to travel to the Barrens.
Look for Ferocious Grizzled Bears, Giant Grizzled Bears, and suitable Worgs in the zone.
The bears are generally found around levels 11–13, while some Worgs and other skinnable beasts extend into higher level ranges.
This makes Silverpine an accessible place to continue gathering Light Leather while searching for the less common Light Hide.
It's also worth considering if you're already leveling in the zone and want to avoid unnecessary travel.
Farming Light Hide in Wailing Caverns and Other Dungeons
If you prefer dungeons, Wailing Caverns can provide additional skinning opportunities from suitable creatures inside the instance.
Wailing Caverns: Deviate Snakes
Located in the Barrens, Wailing Caverns contains multiple types of Deviate creatures that can be skinned.
Potential targets include Deviate Pythons, Adders, Ravagers, and other eligible beasts encountered throughout the dungeon.
For a farming-focused run:
- Enter Wailing Caverns with a group capable of clearing its enemies comfortably.
- Kill eligible Deviate creatures and loot their corpses.
- Skin the available corpses to collect leather and potentially Light Hide.
- Continue through the dungeon, focusing on skinnable enemies rather than expecting every creature to provide materials.
This method becomes more attractive when your group can clear multiple packs efficiently. Higher-level characters capable of handling larger pulls may be able to collect more skins in a shorter period.
However, dungeon enemies are tougher than ordinary outdoor beasts, so Wailing Caverns isn't necessarily the fastest choice for someone leveling alone.
Also, don't confuse Light Hide with Deviate Hide, the separate quest item collected for a Wailing Caverns quest.
Is Shadowfang Keep Worth Farming?
Shadowfang Keep in Silverpine Forest offers some additional skinning opportunities from eligible creatures, including certain Worg-related enemies.
However, the dungeon contains many enemies that cannot be skinned, and its higher-level enemies can produce materials from a different leather tier.
I would treat Shadowfang Keep as an alternative if you're already running the dungeon, not as the first choice for a dedicated Light Hide farm.
Light Hide Drop Rate and Farming Tips
Light Hide is considerably less common than Light Leather, and that rarity has been especially noticeable to some WoW Forever players.
One player reported reaching 138 Skinning with only one Light Hide, while another reached approximately 150 Skinning and had collected just a single hide.
However, other players have received several hides while questing through the Barrens or Westfall.
The difference suggests that luck and the enemies being skinned both matter, but the available reports don't establish an exact Forever drop rate for each creature.
Should You Farm Level 15–20 Beasts?
Enemies around level 15–20 are a sensible starting point, particularly because players have reported better results from beasts level 16–17 and above.
That doesn't mean lower-level enemies cannot produce Light Hide. A confirmed player report describes obtaining one from a level 12 beast.
It's also possible to start encountering Medium Leather as you progress toward higher-level creatures, so farming significantly tougher enemies isn't automatically better for collecting Light Hide specifically.
Don't Farm Ruined Leather Scraps for Light Hide
Light Hide and Light Leather are separate items.
Although Leatherworking can convert Ruined Leather Scraps into Light Leather, that process doesn't produce Light Hide.
If your recipe specifically requires Light Hide, you need the correct material rather than additional Light Leather.
Can You Get Light Hide Without Skinning?
Yes. You can purchase Light Hide from other players or through the Auction House without learning Skinning.
Classic-derived item data also lists some world chests as potential sources, including Battered Chests and Large Battered Chests, although those loot sources and their exact chances aren't fully verified for Forever.
If you only need one or two hides for a recipe, compare Auction House prices against the time you'd spend farming.
For dedicated farming, my recommendation is to start with Westfall or Darkshore on Alliance and the Barrens or Silverpine Forest on Horde. Focus on skinnable beasts in the mid-to-upper teens, collect the ordinary leather along the way, and use Wailing Caverns as an alternative when you have a group available. These locations offer a much more practical starting point than repeatedly skinning random low-level animals without knowing where Light Hide has been found.
