Star Wars: Bounty Hunter Review

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter came to the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and other modern consoles recently and is a gem that often flies under the radar when discussing classic Star Wars games, although it shines brightly in its own right. Originally released during a golden age of Star Wars titles in 2002 on the PS2 and Gamecube, this game allows players to step into the boots of Jango Fett, the infamous bounty hunter whose DNA would go on to create the Clone Army. It offers an experience that blends fast-paced action with rich Star Wars lore, providing a unique angle on the galaxy far, far away.

What sets Bounty Hunter apart from other Star Wars games is its gritty and immersive storyline. You’re not a Jedi or a Rebel hero here; you’re a lone gunman navigating the criminal underworld. The game does an excellent job of capturing the essence of Jango Fett—his resourcefulness, determination, and lethal skill set. From the very start, you’re thrust into intense combat scenarios where your wits and reflexes are tested.

The level design is another really cool feature. Each environment feels distinctly Star Wars, from the seedy underbelly of Coruscant to the rugged landscapes of Outland Station. The game’s atmosphere is drenched in the aesthetic that Star Wars fans will instantly recognize and love. It’s clear that the developers paid close attention to detail, making sure that every corner of the game feels alive and true to the Star Wars universe.

Combat in Bounty Hunter is both challenging and satisfying. Jango’s dual blasters are, of course, the primary tool of destruction, but the game offers a range of weapons and gadgets that make taking down enemies an enjoyable task. The jetpack adds a layer of verticality to the gameplay that makes maneuvering through levels feel dynamic (especially for a game initially released 20+ years ago). You can rain blaster fire from above or evade enemies with a quick burst of flight—something that never gets old.

In addition to the unique combat and level design, the game’s story is well thought out. It delves into Jango’s past, exploring his motivations and the path that led him to become the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunter. The voice acting is on point, bringing the characters to life with performances that add depth to the storyline.

What truly makes Star Wars: Bounty Hunter a memorable experience is the way it puts you in the shoes of a character who, despite his limited screen time in the films, has left a significant mark on the Star Wars saga. The game doesn’t just rely on the franchise’s popularity; it carves out its own niche, giving players a reason to revisit Jango Fett’s story time and again.

Definitely an oldy but goody, and I’m glad to see this game come to a wider audience!
