All Runes and How to Craft Them in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Runes are kind of a big deal in Dragonwilds. You’ll use them for spells, shields, teleporting, crafting boosts—pretty much anything that feels slightly magical. But unlike the classic MMOs, this game doesn’t exactly hand you a glowing book of instructions.

So here’s a plain and simple breakdown of every rune in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, how to make them, and what you need to level up your Runecrafting skill.

All Runes in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

There are 7 runes in total, but one (Water Rune) is basically just here for decoration—for now with more to likely come in future updates (at which point we will update this guide).

  • Air Rune – Used for movement and jumping spells

  • Astral Rune – Needed for support-style spells

  • Earth Rune – Unlocks around mid-level, used in construction boosts

  • Fire Rune – Used for offense and Furnace crafting

  • Law Rune – Tied to teleportation-style spells

  • Nature Rune – Used for resource-based and environmental spells

  • Water Rune – Technically in the game, but no known crafting or spell use yet

How to Craft Runes in Dragon Wilds

All runes are crafted at the Rune Altar, a special station you can build once you collect enough Rune Essence.

Rune Altar recipe:

  • 12 Stone

  • 4 Rune Essence

Each 1 Rune Essence makes 10 runes, so yes—it’s incredibly efficient once you get rolling.

How to get Rune Essence:

  • Look for floating blue rocks surrounded by pink mist

  • Mine them using a pickaxe

  • They respawn over time, so camp a spot if needed

Runecrafting Level Requirements

Your Runecrafting level controls which runes you can make at the Rune Altar.

  • Level 1 – Air Runes

  • Level 1 – Astral Runes

  • Level 11 – Earth Runes

  • Level 13 – Fire Runes

  • Level 16 – Law Runes

  • Level 19 – Nature Runes

The max Runecrafting level in early access is Level 27, which doesn’t unlock new runes—but it does get you one more spell to mess with.

How to level Runecrafting fast:

  • Mine lots of Rune Essence

  • Craft runes in bulk

  • Repeat until you’re a magical rock tycoon

How to Use Runes for Spells

Once you’ve got runes, press Q to open the spell wheel.
Spells are unlocked by leveling up any skill—yes, even Woodcutting or Mining.

  • Each spell tells you which runes it needs

  • Spells have cooldowns, so no spamming

  • Check the K menu to view your spells

  • Use P to see your skill trees and unlock new spells

Final Blurb

Runes are your ticket to all things magic. Level up Runecrafting early, keep a stash of every rune, and you’ll never be stuck on foot again. Except for the Water Rune. That one’s just there to make you ask questions.
