Blue Prince: How to Drain the Fountain Guide

If you've been poking around the manor and spotted the big fountain outside, you might wonder—what's it for? Why does it feel important? In Blue Prince, that instinct is usually right. Turns out, draining the fountain opens up a path to the Underground. But you’ll need to do a little plumbing work first.
Here’s how to make it happen.
Step 1: Get Access to the Pump Room
The Pump Room doesn’t show up right away in your drafts. First, you need to place a Pool somewhere in the manor. Once the Pool is down, it unlocks a handful of rooms for that run, including:
Pump Room
Sauna
Locker Room
Just having the Pool on your map is enough to add these to your future drafts.
Step 2: Understand the Pump Room
Inside the Pump Room, you’ll find:
Tank 1 and Tank 2
Pump 1, 2, and 3 at the front
Pump 4 at the back
A control board that shows rooms you can drain or fill
A switch near Pump 4 that lets you swap between Tank 1 and Tank 2
The levers on the pumps work like this:
Pull down = fill room
Push up = drain back into tanks
Leave in the middle = do nothing
Step 3: Drain the Fountain

Once you're in the Pump Room, do the following to get the fountain emptied:
Check the control board for the Fountain. It should be hooked up to Pump 2 and show 12 blue dots, which means it’s full.
Start pushing Pump 2’s lever up to begin draining water out of the fountain into the tanks.
Now, use up the water in your tanks by sending it to other rooms. Rooms like:
Kitchen (uses 3 units)
Greenhouse (uses 4)
Pool (uses 1)
After redirecting water to other rooms and filling up your tanks, the Fountain's water level should hit zero.
That’s it—the fountain is officially drained.
Step 4: What’s Under the Fountain?
Head back outside to where the fountain is. With the water gone, you’ll now see steps leading down. Follow them, and you’ll enter part of the Underground—a whole new section of the game full of secrets.
Bonus: The Fountain stays drained across future runs, as long as you don’t mess with the pumps again. If you reconfigure the Pump Room later, you’ll have to re-drain it.
Final Blurb
Draining the Fountain in Blue Prince takes a little planning and some pump-switch gymnastics, but it opens a whole new chunk of the game. Just don’t forget which pump does what—and maybe write it down. This is Blue Prince, after all.
