Blue Prince: Sledge Hammer Guide

The Sledge Hammer is one of the most useful tools in Blue Prince, especially for players looking to save Keys or gain access to hidden content. It lets you break open locked chests—no key required—and is also a key component for crafting the powerful Power Hammer, which can destroy breakable walls throughout the manor and estate grounds.

What the Sledge Hammer Does
Breaks open locked trunks and chests
Saves your Keys for other locks
Required to craft the Power Hammer in the Workshop
While it doesn’t open doors, it can crack open loot containers that would normally cost you a valuable Key.
Where to Find the Sledge Hammer
The Sledge Hammer is randomized, so it won’t appear every run—but here’s where to look:
Commissary:
Costs coins, and inventory changes daily
Can sometimes include the Sledge Hammer for sale
Workshop:
Occasionally found on tables inside
Green Rooms:
Especially in the Greenhouse or Courtyard
Dead-End Rooms:
Such as the Attic, Closet, or Walk-In Closet
Toolshed (Outdoor Room):
Often contains tools like the Shovel or Sledge Hammer
Requires unlocking the Garage Door and West Gate to access
How to Keep It Longer
Because most items are lost at the end of each day, your Sledge Hammer will vanish unless you stash it:
Use the Coat Check Room:
Store your hammer before the end of the day
If you draft Coat Check in a future run, you can retrieve it
Used in Crafting: Power Hammer
To break walls, not just trunks, you’ll need to build a Power Hammer at the Workshop.
Here’s what you need:
Sledge Hammer
Battery Pack (often found in the Workshop)
Broken Lever (often in the Security Room or Spare Room)
Craft the Power Hammer, and you’ll be able to smash through cracked walls—some of which hide valves, alternate Antechamber levers, or entire shortcuts to the Underground.
Final Blurb
The Sledge Hammer is your best friend when you’re low on Keys and tired of locked loot. Whether you're cracking chests or prepping to smash down a wall later, picking one up early can completely change your run. Just don’t forget to stash it—or you’ll be back to coin-flipping at the Commissary again tomorrow.
