Classes Explained in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

You don’t pick a class in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. You build one. That’s either great news or terrible news, depending on how much you like menus.
Instead of choosing a Warrior or Mage from a dropdown list, you start with a bald head, basic gear, and zero personality (the RS joke was required). Then you slowly shape your character into whatever you want. Want to be a fireball-chucking maniac? Go level Magic. Want to tank dragons with a sword and a dream? Grind up your melee skills. No pressure.

The “Classes” You Actually Have
There are no official classes in Dragonwilds, but the game does follow the classic RuneScape combat triangle. That gives you three main playstyles:
Melee (Attack) – Get up close and personal. You’ll tank hits and swing big weapons.
Ranged – Stay back and pelt enemies with arrows. Good for kiting and picking off enemies.
Magic – Sling spells using runes. Fireballs, buffs, and all the magical chaos you expect.
You can focus on one or dabble in all three. The game doesn’t punish you for mixing roles, but it does reward you for sticking with one long enough to unlock powerful skill spells tied to that combat type.
No Locked-In Builds
There’s no class lock, no talent tree, no character creation quiz asking if you’re more of a “rogue” or a “paladin.” You level what you use. The more you chop trees, the better you get at Woodcutting. The more you zap goblins, the more your Magic improves. It’s that simple.
And yes, you can absolutely build a character that’s all Woodcutting and no combat. You do you.
Final Blurb
If you're looking for fixed classes with neat little labels, Dragonwilds might drive you nuts. But if you like the freedom to become a sword-wielding chef who occasionally dabbles in arcane magic and loves building houses, welcome home. You're going to fit in just fine.
