Companions Explained | Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

No, Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon does not have traditional companions, followers, or full-on party members systems like in Skyrim sadlly.

Nobody’s carrying your loot or chiming in with witty dialogue.

But the game does offer two types of stand-ins: summons and pets... with very different roles.

Summons: Your Magical Hitmen

If you’re looking for something to fight by your side, summons are what you want (see full list of summons here).

  • Summons are magical creatures you call using spells

  • They stay out temporarily and will fight for you

  • They don’t need gear or stats to scale

  • You can command them with the same button you used to summon them

Each summon has a role… fast melee, tank, ranged attacker… and they’re great for overwhelming enemies or distracting a boss while you heal or cast.

Summons are pure combat tools. They don’t really interact with you the same way “companions” do in some other games.

Pets: Just for Looks

Then there are pets... or more accurately, a pet (as far as we know; there may be more out there, full disclosure).

Right now, the main known pet in the game is a little creature you hatch from an egg near the Shrine of a Forgotten God. Once it pops out, it follows you around like a weird little shadow.

  • It’s non-combat, purely cosmetic

  • It can’t die, and enemies ignore it

  • You can tell it to stay in one place if you want

  • It seems to exist just for fun or as a nod to the board game

There’s no official questline tied to it or hidden powers, and no way to gear it up. Think of it more like a Runescape-style vanity pet (RS3>OSRS Just sayin’).

Some players think it might do something later in the story... but as of now, it’s just there for vibes.

Can You Lose It?

Not really. If it disappears, there's a map icon that shows where it is, and it usually fast travels with you when set to follow.

You can’t unsummon it, but you can tell it to stop following if you need a break from the cuteness.

Final Blurb & FAQ

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon keeps things bleak and solo. No banter buddies or sword-swinging friends.

But if you want backup, the summon system is strong and you can spam up a bunch of skelly warriors... and if you just want a creepy little pet watching your every move, that’s covered too.
