Deltarune Chapter 5 Aborted Weird Route Differences

Deltarune Chapter 5 Aborted Weird Route Differences

Spoilers for Deltarune Chapter 5’s Weird Route ahead. The Chapter 5 Aborted Weird Route differences happen if you stop selecting Proceed during the lake scene after Kris and Noelle are submerged. Instead of reaching the “Insert Chapter 7 Side B” screen, the game returns you to an altered version of the normal Chapter 5 route with Noelle missing, Kris collapsing, extra Susie concern, and a changed Dark World title for Kris.

This does not play like a simple failed route. Because it has unique scenes and route-specific changes, it may be more than a normal abort, even though “Aborted Weird Route” is the easiest name for players to search right now.

What Is The Aborted Weird Route?

The Chapter 5 Aborted Weird Route is the altered route you get if you stop pressing Proceed during the lake scene with Noelle.

On the main Chapter 5 Weird Route, Kris and Noelle keep going deeper into the lake until the game cuts to the “Insert Chapter 7 Side B” screen. That ends Chapter 5 early and sends you back to chapter select.

The aborted version is different. If you let the screen fade out after Kris and Noelle are fully submerged, the game does not go to the Side B screen. Instead, it pushes you back into Chapter 5’s normal route, but with several disturbing changes.

Noelle tries to deny what happened. Kris is physically worse off. Susie notices something is wrong. Noelle is missing from the resumed route. Later, Kris’s Dark World title changes to Shattered Rose.

How To Trigger The Aborted Weird Route

To trigger the Aborted Weird Route in Chapter 5, you need to start Chapter 5 from a file that continued the Weird Route through Chapter 4.

At the start of Chapter 5, Kris stays in bed. When Toriel starts talking to Kris, mash directional inputs to force Kris to get up. Then leave the Dreemurr house with Susie, go to Sans’ ice cream stand, and get the Bread.

After that, go to the lake where Noelle is waiting. Once you enter the lake room, you cannot leave normally. Noelle’s scene will begin, and the route will push Kris and Noelle farther into the water.

During the first set of prompts, it does not really matter whether you choose Stop or Proceed. The scene keeps going either way. The important part comes later, once Kris and Noelle are submerged and both options become Proceed.

To trigger the aborted route, stop choosing. Let the screen fade out instead of continuing to press Proceed.

The simple version is:

  • Continue the Weird Route from Chapter 4 into Chapter 5.
  • Mash directional inputs to get Kris out of bed.
  • Leave the house with Susie.
  • Get the Bread from Sans’ ice cream stand.
  • Go to the lake where Noelle is waiting.
  • Continue until Kris and Noelle are submerged.
  • When the game keeps demanding Proceed, stop making choices.
  • Let the fade finish to enter the altered route.

If you keep selecting Proceed fast enough, you will not get this version. You will reach the Chapter 7 Side B endpoint instead.

All Aborted Weird Route Differences

The Aborted Weird Route changes several parts of Chapter 5 after the lake scene.

Difference What Changes
No Chapter 7 Side B screen Letting the fade finish returns you to an altered normal Chapter 5 route instead.
Noelle says the dream never happened The route frames the lake scene like something Noelle is trying to deny.
Nothing changed scenes play Noelle repeats that nothing changed while the game shows altered lake and table scenes.
Noelle is missing from the resumed route After the altered scenes, Noelle is no longer in the normal spot.
Kris has trouble standing Kris takes longer to get up and collapses more than once.
Susie helps Kris move Susie notices something is wrong and helps Kris around.
Susie worries about Kris and Noelle Her dialogue reflects that both of them are acting strange.
Ocean audio continues The ocean sound can keep looping into later moments instead of stopping cleanly.
Ralsei reacts differently Ralsei is relieved that Kris is okay after meeting them.
Kris’s title changes In the Dark World, Kris becomes Shattered Rose.
Extra Susie dialogue can happen later Near Castle - Left End, Susie can bring up Kris and Noelle’s relationship.

The important thing is that the route does not simply dump you back into Chapter 5 with no consequences. It keeps the lake scene hanging over the rest of the chapter.

Noelle’s Nothing Changed Scenes

The biggest emotional difference is Noelle repeating that nothing changed.

After the abort, Noelle tries to explain away what happened. She says the dream never happened, and the game cuts through scenes involving Susie, Noelle, the French Fry song, and the lake while Noelle keeps repeating the same idea.

That phrase is the center of the route. Noelle is trying to convince herself that the lake did not change anything. She wants to believe Kris has not changed, she has not changed, and everything can go back to the way it was.

But the rest of the route says otherwise. Kris is worse. Susie notices. Noelle is missing from the resumed sequence. The normal route continues, but it does not feel normal anymore.

What Happens To Noelle?

After the lake scene, the altered route resumes without Noelle in the normal spot.

The game does not give a clean explanation right away. Instead, it shows Noelle trying to deny what happened and then removes her from the normal flow of Chapter 5. When Carol calls about Rudy’s fall, the screen cuts to black again, with Noelle narrating another line about nothing changing.

That is why this route feels so unsettling. Noelle is not just absent like a character who walked offscreen. The game makes her absence part of the route’s mood. She tries to reduce everything back to normal, but the chapter clearly does not forget what happened at the lake.

So the practical answer is that Noelle is missing from the resumed Chapter 5 route after the abort. The story meaning is still open to interpretation, but the game is clearly marking her absence as important.

Kris Collapsing And Susie’s Reactions

Kris is visibly affected after the aborted route.

After the lake, Kris takes longer to get up from the bench than they do in the normal route. They collapse after standing, and Susie has to help lead them around. Kris later breaks away from Susie and collapses again.

That matters because the route is not only about Noelle. It also shows that Kris is suffering from what happened at the lake. Chapter 5 has already been heavy about the relationship between Kris, Noelle, and the player, and this branch makes Kris’s body look like it can barely keep going.

Susie notices too. She expresses concern for both Kris and Noelle because both of them are acting wrong. That makes the aborted route feel more uncomfortable than the clean Side B endpoint in some ways. Instead of cutting away, it forces the characters to keep walking around with the damage.

What Shattered Rose Means

In the Aborted Weird Route, Kris’s Dark World title changes to Shattered Rose.

The description says that only one knows the rose’s meaning. That is clearly meant to stand out. Chapter 5 is filled with flower imagery, and this branch connects Kris, Noelle, and the lake scene to something broken.

I would not pretend there is one confirmed explanation yet. But Shattered Rose is probably not random. A rose can point toward beauty, love, secrecy, or a relationship. Shattered points toward damage. Put together, the title sounds like the route is marking Kris as someone tied to a broken feeling, broken bond, or broken version of the chapter’s flower imagery.

The “only one knows” part is the most interesting detail. It suggests the meaning is known by one person or one presence, but not openly understood by the party. That could point to Kris, Noelle, the player, or something else tied to the Weird Route.

For now, the safest answer is that Shattered Rose is a unique Aborted Weird Route title for Kris, and it is one of the clearest signs that this branch is more than a normal failed route.

Is It Really An Aborted Route?

It may not be a normal aborted route.

Players are calling it the Aborted Weird Route because you get it by refusing or failing to keep pressing Proceed during the lake scene. That name makes sense from a guide perspective.

But the branch is stranger than a normal cancellation. It has unique follow-up scenes, altered dialogue, Kris’s Shattered Rose title, and later consequences in the Dark World.

There is also the detail that the usual ominous cancel sound does not play when this happens. That makes it feel less like a simple “you dropped the route” moment and more like the game is tracking a different branch.

So the best way to think about it is this: it is the aborted Weird Route for search purposes, but it may be its own alternate Weird Route branch in practice.

Does It Continue Chapter 7 Side B?

No, the Aborted Weird Route does not continue to the Chapter 7 Side B screen.

If you want the main Chapter 5 Weird Route endpoint, you need to keep choosing Proceed until the CRT screen appears and tells you to insert Chapter 7 Side B. That is the route covered in our Deltarune Chapter 5 Snowgrave Route explained guide.

The aborted route is what happens when you do not keep choosing Proceed. Instead of ending Chapter 5 early, the game returns you to a changed normal route with Noelle missing from the resumed sequence and Kris visibly damaged.

That makes the two outcomes feel very different. The Side B ending is a hard stop that points forward to a future chapter. The aborted route keeps you inside Chapter 5 and makes you sit with the consequences.

My read is that both outcomes matter. The Side B path looks like the “successful” Weird Route continuation, while the aborted version may be a separate branch showing what happens if the player loses control at the lake. Either way, the differences are too specific to ignore.
