Self revive just changed Fortnite again. You can now bring yourself back even if your team’s gone, and there’s more than one way to do it. Here’s how to use self revive in Chapter 7 Season 1, including the new van trick that barely anyone knows about.
How to Use Self Revive in Fortnite
If you have a Self Revive device, it kicks in automatically when your health drops to zero. You don’t press anything. Your character kneels and starts the revive process right where they fell. After 10 seconds, you’ll stand up with 30 HP and can move again.
You can still be finished off while it’s happening, so make sure you roll or crawl into cover before it triggers. The device works even in Solo matches, giving you one free second chance before elimination.
How to Get the Self Revive Device
The Self Revive device is a Legendary rarity item, so it’s tough to find. There are only a few reliable sources where it can appear.
Mending Machines
Buy it for 2500 gold at any Mending Machine around the map. Each machine carries only a few, and other players can buy them out.
Care Packages
When Rift events drop Care Packages, check your map and head for the nearest one. Self Revive devices can spawn inside alongside other high-tier loot.
Rare Chests
Rare Chests sometimes contain one or even two devices. The chance is low, but always open them if you spot the gold glow.
How the Self Revive Works
When it activates, your character glows blue and stays frozen in place for 10 seconds. The timer bar appears like a normal revive. Once complete, you rise with 30 HP. It works in all game modes, but only once per device. If you go down again without another one, you’re done.
The device doesn’t take an inventory slot, so you can carry it without losing any weapon space. Once used, it disappears automatically.
Secret Reboot Van Self Revive Trick
There’s a hidden bonus most players don’t know. You can roll or crawl up to a Reboot Van while knocked and start reviving yourself there, even in Solo mode. You don’t need a Self Revive device for this part.
Your character will slide into the back of the van just like when a teammate revives you. The van animation begins, and after the usual revive time, you’ll respawn the same way. Enemies can still shoot you out during it, but it’s a solid escape move if you’re close to a van.
This only works if you’re in a knocked state, so usually it happens after being downed with a Self Revive device still unused. It’s a small but powerful mechanic that Epic hasn’t highlighted yet.
Tips for Better Self Revive Plays
Always roll into cover before your revive starts.
Combine it with Med Mist or Slurp right after reviving.
Save gold early so you can buy one late game.
Watch for Rift event notifications to catch Care Packages fast.
Use the van trick in Solo for clutch escapes if you’re close enough.
Final Blurb
Fortnite’s self revive system turns knockdowns into comebacks. Between the Self Revive device and the sneaky van trick, there’s more than one way to stay in the fight. Just remember to use terrain, cover, and timing, or you’ll end up rolling right into another elimination.
