Halo Campaign Evolved Brings Master Chief to PlayStation for the First Time

It’s finally happening. After decades as an Xbox exclusive, Halo is making its PlayStation debut. Halo Campaign Evolved arrives on PS5 in 2026 as a full reimagining of the original Combat Evolved campaign, rebuilt from the ground up with modern graphics, controls, and features.

What Halo Campaign Evolved Actually Is

This is not a simple remaster. Halo Campaign Evolved recreates the full story of the first game with new cinematics, reworked environments, and improved movement and shooting systems. The campaign adds nine extra weapons from across the series and introduces three new prequel missions starring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. These missions explore events that happen before the Fall of Reach and set the tone for the original story.

The classic arsenal also returns, but with sharper handling, smarter AI, and upgraded sound. Every explosion, reload, and vehicle engine has been redesigned to feel closer to modern Halo standards while keeping the nostalgic energy intact.

How the Gameplay Has Changed

The gameplay overhaul focuses on smooth controls and modernized combat pacing. Players can now hijack enemy vehicles, including the Covenant’s Wraith tank, for the first time in the original Halo campaign setting. The mission structure also supports optional modifiers called Skulls, which change how each level plays. Some increase difficulty by removing your HUD, while others make fights a bit… stranger.

The team confirmed that this version contains the largest set of Skulls ever featured in a single Halo campaign.

Co-Op, Crossplay, and PlayStation Integration

Halo Campaign Evolved supports two-player split-screen co-op and four-player online play, complete with crossplay and cross-progression between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. That means your progress and unlocks carry over no matter where you play.

Local co-op returns for those who want that classic couch experience, while online squads can jump straight into any mission together using improved matchmaking tools.

The Halo Story That Started It All

This re-release brings new players to the beginning of Halo’s universe. It follows Master Chief and Cortana as they discover the Halo ring, battle the Covenant, and uncover the weapon’s terrifying purpose. Every cutscene has been fully rebuilt, giving long-time fans a fresh way to experience the series’ most iconic moments.

When It Launches

Halo Campaign Evolved launches on PS5 in 2026, day-and-date with the Xbox and PC versions. Players can wishlist it now while Halo Studios shares more details in the months ahead.

Final Blurb

After nearly twenty-five years, Halo is stepping onto PlayStation. Campaign Evolved isn’t just a return to where the saga began, it’s a full revival of a classic shooter for an entirely new audience. The Chief’s journey started on Xbox, but in 2026, the ring will open to everyone.
