How to Beat Volgin in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Volgin is the seventh major boss fight in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. You face him in Groznyj Grad B1F in an arena-style battle where he relies on electricity, brute force, and ranged attacks. The fight can be won either lethally or non-lethally, with a special camouflage reward for stamina depletion.
How to Beat Volgin
Spam CQC Throws and Rolls – The simplest way to beat Volgin is with CQC. Throw him to the ground, then quickly dodge roll over his body to deal stamina damage. This works especially well on higher difficulties since he leaves himself open to grabs often.
Shoot Him During Idle Animations – When Volgin powers up or talks to Ocelot, he stops attacking. Shoot him in the back with the Mk22 for stamina damage or the M37 for lethal damage.
Close In on Ranged Attacks – He has two ranged attacks: a lightning beam that drains your weapon ammo, and finger gun bullets. Stay close and interrupt these with CQC throws.
Use Chaff Grenades – Chaff disrupts his lightning beam, forcing it to arc upward and miss. This is most useful in phase two.
Duck Under Bullet AoE – At the start of phase two, bullets float around Volgin before firing. Go prone near him to avoid everything, then counter with CQC.
Prone for Lightning Beams – His upgraded lightning beam fires multiple streams at once, but all of them can be dodged by lying prone.
Run in Circles During Charges – When he bull-rushes you, sprint in circles until he stops. After his combo, punish him with a throw.
Best Weapons Against Volgin
Non-Lethal: CQC Throws, Dodge Rolls, Mk22 tranquilizer pistol
Lethal: M37 shotgun
Note: unequip your guns when he is invulnerable or you risk losing ammo to his lightning attacks.
Volgin Rewards
Cold War Camouflage – Earned by defeating Volgin non-lethally. This camo makes enemy soldiers hesitate to shoot you, which is especially useful in the upcoming sidecar sequence.
Collectibles in Volgin’s Arena
Kerotan Frog 52 – At the southwest side of the arena, peeking from the upper edge.
GA-KO Duck 52 – Found east at the start of the fight, sitting camouflaged on top of a metal cage.
Final Blurb
To defeat Volgin in Metal Gear Solid Delta, focus on CQC throws, staying close during his ranged attacks, and going prone to avoid AoEs. Use the Mk22 for stamina damage if you want the Cold War Camouflage, or the M37 for a lethal finish. Chaff grenades and patience make the fight much easier.
