Blocking in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is your basic defense move—the simplest way to stop an enemy attack. It won’t make you invincible, but it’s better than taking a sword to the face. However, blocking uses stamina, and enemies can break through it, so you’ll need to be smart about when and how you use it.
How to Block Attacks
Blocking is as easy as holding a button, but knowing when to block is what really matters. Here’s how it works:
PC – Hold Right-Click
PlayStation – Hold L1
Xbox – Hold LB
When you block:
If you have a shield, you’ll raise it and completely stop an attack (until your stamina runs out).
If you have a weapon, Henry will try to block with it, but heavy attacks or combos can still break through.
The Downsides of Blocking
Blocking is simple, but it has some big weaknesses:
It drains stamina. The more you block, the faster you get tired. If you run out of stamina, you can’t block anymore—and that’s when things get ugly.
It won’t stop combos. Skilled enemies can chain multiple attacks, breaking your block and hitting you anyway.
Heavy attacks can break your guard. If an enemy swings hard enough, they might stagger you, leaving you open for more hits.
Blocking vs. Parrying – Which One is Better?
Blocking is safer but drains stamina and doesn’t stop enemy combos.
Parrying (Perfect Block) is harder to time but doesn’t use stamina and stops enemy attacks.
Use blocking as a backup. If you aren’t confident in your parries yet, blocking will at least buy you time.
When Should You Block?
If you’re not sure about your timing. When you’re still learning enemy attack patterns, blocking is a safer choice than guessing a parry.
When you’re low on stamina. If dodging or parrying feels risky, blocking is your best bet—just don’t rely on it too much.
Against weak enemies. Basic enemies won’t break your block as often, so you can safely block their attacks without worrying too much.
Final Blurb
Blocking is your most basic defensive move, but it’s not perfect. It uses stamina, can be broken, and won’t stop enemy combos—which is why learning to parry is so important. Still, if you time your blocks well and use them smartly, they’ll keep you alive long enough to master better techniques. Just don’t hold block forever, or you’ll end up tired, defenseless, and very dead.
