How to Fix the Jauffre Bug in Oblivion Remastered

Image Credits: Bethesda Game Studios, Oblivion Remastered

The Jauffre bug is alive and well in Oblivion Remastered, causing headaches for players trying to progress the main quest. If Jauffre gets stuck on his horse, refuses to talk about the Amulet, or simply vanishes, here’s how you can work around these classic issues.

Jauffre Stuck on the Way to Cloud Ruler Temple

If Jauffre freezes on his horse or refuses to move:

  • Fast Travel Trick:
Try fast traveling directly to Cloud Ruler Temple. Sometimes this forces both Jauffre and Martin to appear nearby. If they don’t move, fast travel again to a nearby location and walk back up the hill.

  • Lead Him Manually:
If Jauffre is stuck at the bottom of the mountain, try walking ahead slowly. He might eventually start following you. Make sure you stay on the road—both Jauffre and Martin struggle with rough terrain.

  • Double Fast Travel:
Some players reported success by fast traveling twice—once away, then back to Cloud Ruler Temple. This can reset their pathing and trigger the cutscene at the gate.

Can’t Talk to Jauffre About the Amulet

If Jauffre won’t give you the option to discuss the Amulet of Kings:

  • Check Your Inventory:
Make sure you actually have the Amulet of Kings in your inventory. If you picked up a katana from Baurus and something glitched, it could interfere with quest triggers.

  • Talk to Prior Maborel:
Enter Weynon Priory and speak to Prior Maborel first. Sometimes talking to him before Jauffre helps reset dialogue options.

  • Reload Before Entering the Priory:
If possible, reload a save from before you first entered Weynon Priory. This can prevent the dialogue bug from locking you out of progressing.

  • Drop Unnecessary Items:
If you’re carrying unusual quest items (like the katana from the tutorial), try dropping them before speaking to Jauffre.

When All Else Fails

Unfortunately, if none of these tricks work, you may be stuck with:

  • Reloading an Older Save

  • Restarting the Game (if you're early in your playthrough)

Bethesda support hasn’t offered much help beyond acknowledging the bug, so manual fixes are your best bet for now.

Final Blurb

Jauffre might be the Grandmaster of the Blades, but he’s also a master at breaking quests. Whether he’s stuck riding in circles or giving you the silent treatment about saving the world, a few fast travels and persuasion might get him moving again. If not—well, welcome to the Elder Scrolls experience. Save often.
