Oblivion Remastered: J'ghasta Location Guide (Broken Vows)

The Broken Vows quest sends you after J'Ghasta, a Khajiit who's more than just a target… He’s a Speaker for the Dark Brotherhood's Black Hand. He spends his days in Bruma, quietly mastering unarmed combat. Unfortunately for you, that means this isn’t a normal fight.

Here’s how to find him, survive the encounter, and maybe even skip the hard part.

How to Find J'Ghasta’s House

You’ll find J'Ghasta on the east side of Bruma. His house is locked, so either pick the lock or pickpocket the key if you catch him outside. The moment you step inside, he won’t be thrilled—expect a warning to leave before things get ugly.

The Hidden Trap Door

This is where most players get stuck. Head down to his basement, but don’t waste time pacing around. Look for a pile of folded cloth—underneath it is a secret trap door leading to his Training Room. It’s easy to miss, and yes, many have spent far too long searching for it.

J’Ghasta Boss Fight

Once inside the secret room, J'Ghasta will force you into a hand-to-hand fight (Unless he’s asleep… Read below). He has a unique ability where he’ll disarm you, tossing aside any weapon you try to equip. You can sneak in a few heavy hits before he strips your weapon, but after that, it’s fists only.

Bring plenty of:

  • Healing potions

  • Fortify Strength or Endurance buffs

  • Solid armor, since blocking options are limited

This fight is tougher than most, especially if your hand-to-hand skill is lacking.

Sneaky Alternative: Kill Him in His Sleep

If you're patient (and stealthy), there’s a much easier way. Wait until J'Ghasta goes to bed, then sneak into his house and take him out while he’s sleeping. No disarming, no drawn-out brawl—just a quick end to the contract.

Final Blurb

J'Ghasta might be a master of unarmed combat, but even the best fighters are vulnerable when they’re asleep. Whether you plan on facing him head-on in his secret training room or taking the stealthy route, finding that hidden trap door is what you gotta do. Either way, bring potions and maybe a little patience if you don’t feel like throwing punches.
