Running into a World of Warcraft BIOS update error when launching the game? If you’re using an Intel 13th or 14th Gen CPU, WoW might refuse to start and hit you with a message like this:

“World of Warcraft has detected your computer is using an Intel 13th or 14th generation processor that does not have the proper updates installed to address potential processor instability issues...”

If that looks familiar, don’t panic. While we can’t guarantee a fix, here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to hopefully update your BIOS and get rid of the issue for good.

Why WoW Wants a BIOS Update

Blizzard isn’t just being nosy. Intel’s 13th/14th Gen CPUs can become unstable over time if your BIOS is outdated. This instability can lead to crashes, performance issues, or even hardware damage if ignored.

Blizzard is now warning players with outdated BIOS to protect your CPU—and to keep WoW from exploding mid-raid.

Who Gets This Error?

  • You have an Intel 13th or 14th Gen processor

  • Your BIOS is from 2022 or early 2023

  • You’re using a Gigabyte motherboard (or similar brands)

How To Fix It – BIOS Update Guide

Option 1: The Easy Way – Gigabyte Control Center

If you have a Gigabyte motherboard, here’s the fast fix:

  1. Download Gigabyte Control Center from Gigabyte’s site

  2. Open it and go to the Update tab

  3. Select MB BIOS

  4. Click Install and let it do the update for you

  5. Restart your PC when it’s done

Done. No USB drives or weird menus.

Option 2: Manual Method (All Motherboards)

  • Find Your Motherboard Model

    • Press Windows + R, type: msinfo32, hit Enter

    • Look for BaseBoard Product – that’s your motherboard

  • Get the Latest BIOS

    • Go to the manufacturer’s website (e.g., Gigabyte, ASUS, MSI)

    • Find your motherboard’s page, download the latest BIOS

    • Unzip the file, put it on a USB drive (formatted FAT32)

  • Enter BIOS (Press DEL Key)

    • Restart your PC

    • Mash the DEL key to enter BIOS

    • Look for Q-Flash (Gigabyte) or M-Flash (MSI)

  • Update BIOS

    • Select your USB drive and the BIOS file

    • Confirm the update, wait for it to finish (don’t turn off your PC)

    • Your PC will restart with the updated BIOS

Final Blurb

Once your BIOS is updated, WoW won’t nag you anymore, and your CPU will stop living on the edge. This update doesn’t just fix the game—it prevents real hardware issues. It sounds scary, but with the tools above, you can knock it out in 10 minutes.

Better FPS, fewer crashes, and your CPU gets to live happily ever after.
