Crimson Moon Guides
Crimson Moon is a gothic action RPG from ProbablyMonsters built around brutal melee combat, replayable Hunts, character builds, and high-risk trips through the fallen city of Gildenarch. You play as a Nephilim, a human-angel hybrid created to defend humanity from the demons, undead, vampires, and other creatures that have overrun the city.
Crimson Moon released on September 1, 2026, with players able to take on Gildenarch alone or through two-player co-op. Rather than progressing through the city once and moving on, the game is built around replayable runs where new equipment, upgrades, Boons, modifiers, and increasingly difficult Hunts give you reasons to return to previously cleared areas.
What is Crimson Moon?
Crimson Moon takes place in Gildenarch, a once-holy city that has fallen to a supernatural invasion. As a Nephilim serving the Order of the Crimson Moon, you venture into the city's districts to fight through enemy encounters, gather equipment, complete objectives, and eventually challenge powerful bosses known as the Dead Gods.
The game mixes Souls-inspired melee combat with a run-based progression structure. Individual Hunts can change through enemy compositions, rewards, modifiers, and the build you bring with you, while permanent progression gives you more options to experiment with as you continue playing.
How Hunts Work in Crimson Moon
Hunts are the core missions in Crimson Moon. Before heading out, you prepare a loadout and select the equipment, consumables, and Angel you want to bring into the run. During a Hunt, you can explore for additional loot, fight enemies and bosses, find new equipment, and develop your build through effects such as Boons.
Successfully completing a Hunt is especially important when you have found equipment you want to keep. Newly discovered weapons, armor, and trinkets must be purified before they become permanent additions to your collection, giving each run a risk-versus-reward element once you've picked up valuable loot.
Combat, Weapons, and Builds
Crimson Moon focuses heavily on close-range combat, with players using different weapons, dodges, parries, heavy attacks, executions, and Weapon Arts against Gildenarch's enemies. Weapons can play very differently from one another, making your choice about more than simply equipping whichever item has the highest damage.
Builds can combine weapons and Weapon Arts with armor sets, trinkets, Boons, consumables, and Angels. Finding effects that work together is a major part of progression, and new equipment or Boons can give you reasons to change how you approach later Hunts.
Progression and the Sanctus Clypeus
Between Hunts, players return to the Sanctus Clypeus hub to prepare for the next run. This is where you can interact with important NPCs, improve equipment and consumables, manage progression, unlock additional options, and choose the next Hunt before returning to Gildenarch.
Progression continues even as you replay areas. Higher difficulty versions of completed Hunts can provide better rewards, while purified equipment expands the collection you can use for future loadouts. Scrolls can also unlock additional Boons, giving you more potential build combinations over time.
Can You Play Crimson Moon in Co-op?
Crimson Moon can be played solo or with one other player in two-player co-op. Co-op is optional rather than required, with the game adjusting encounters for multiplayer and providing mechanics built around fighting alongside another Nephilim. Players who prefer to take on Hunts alone can progress through the game entirely solo.
