How to Get Coins of Ancestry in WoW (Lunar Festival Guide)

The Lunar Festival is back, which means it’s time to run all over Azeroth bowing to old NPCs in exchange for Coins of Ancestry. If only real life worked this way.

These coins can be traded for fireworks, outfits, pets, and a fancy hearthstone—because nothing says “holiday spirit” like blowing things up and looking stylish while doing it. Here’s a quick guide on how to get more Coins of Ancestry.

Step 1: Find Elders, Get Coins

Elders are scattered everywhere—Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms, Northrend, the Dragon Isles, even inside dungeons. Each one gives you:

  • One Coin of Ancestry

  • 75 Reputation with all major city factions

  • A Lucky Red Envelope, usually filled with junk, but free is free

You’ll need a lot of coins if you want all the rewards, so get moving.

Step 2: Use a Guide (Or Enjoy Running in Circles)

Finding Elders on your own is like looking for a needle in a very large, very dangerous haystack.

  • Use an addon like TomTom to track them.

  • Or check Wowhead for a full list of locations so you don’t rage quit halfway through.

Some Elders are inside dungeons, because Blizzard thinks you should work for your holiday loot.

Step 3: Watch Out for Phasing

Sometimes an Elder won’t be there because the zone has changed (because time travel is normal now).

  • If an Elder is missing, talk to Zidormi to switch the zone back to an earlier version.

  • If you can’t find Zidormi, just move on before frustration sets in.

Step 4: Do Some Extra Quests for More Coins

Besides hunting down Elders, you can get more Coins of Ancestry by doing event quests:

  • Lunar Fireworks – Light some fireworks. That’s it.

  • Valadar Starsong – Travel to Moonglade. Simple.

  • Lunar Preservation – Visit moonwells because the game tells you to.

  • Elune’s Blessing – Summon and defeat Omen, the holiday boss.

The Lunar Preservation quest gives you 25 Coins of Ancestry. That’s a lot of coins for a little effort.

Step 5: Spend Your Hard-Earned Coins

After all that Elder-chasing, head to Moonglade and talk to Valadar and Fariel Starsong. They’ll happily take your coins in exchange for:

  • Toys and Fireworks – Because explosions never get old.

  • Pets – A floating lantern that silently judges you.

  • Transmog Outfits – Look festive while still wearing your real gear underneath.

  • Profession Recipes – For engineers who think Azeroth doesn’t have enough fireworks yet.

Final Blurb

  • Find Elders, get Coins of Ancestry.

  • Use a guide, unless you enjoy wandering aimlessly.

  • If an Elder is missing, go talk to Zidormi.

  • Do event quests for extra coins.

  • Spend your coins on cool stuff in Moonglade.

Now get out there and honor some Elders. They’re waiting, and let’s be honest—they don’t have much else going on.
