WoW How to Make Your House Float | Floating House Guide
World of Warcraft

Floating houses are one of the coolest tricks in WoW’s new housing system. It’s not officially supported yet, but players have already figured out two working methods to pull it off. Here’s exactly how to make your house float without breaking your build.

Note: We’ve embeded a video below as well if you want a visual walkthrough.

How to Make Your House Float in WoW Housing

Open the Housing Dashboard and go to your plot. Click Edit House to enter Decor Mode, then switch to Advanced Mode. Click the Move option. Normally you’ll see arrows to move decor left, right, forward, or backward, but the up-down arrow is hidden. The trick is that it still exists, just invisible.

Click slightly above the point where the other arrows meet, and you’ll grab the invisible vertical arrow. Drag up slowly, and your house will lift off the ground. If it doesn’t work, place any other decor piece first, move that one up, then return to your house. The arrow should now activate correctly.

Alternate Method Using Special Plots

The other method works by using certain elevated plots. The best known ones are Plot 17 for Alliance and Plot 16 for Horde. These plots have raised terrain edges inside the boundary.

To use this method, disable collision in Advanced Mode. Drag your house onto the sloped edge, and rotate it slightly if needed. The game will treat the higher surface as the new “floor.” Once your house is floating, you can move to any other plot and it will stay suspended in midair.

Fixing the Underside

A floating house looks strange from below, so most players hide the gap with large boulders or trees. You can buy these from Botanist Bohan in Razorwind Shores or Trevor Grener in Founders Point. Smuggler Yen Malone also sells both styles. The rocks scale nicely and blend well under floating builds.

Bonus Building Tips

  • Use Steady Flight for easy camera control while decorating outside

  • Place all items first, then scale them afterward to save time

  • Decorate Mode keeps grouped items attached when moved together

  • Use dyes and wall styles to blend your floating base naturally

Final Blurb

Floating houses in WoW aren’t official yet, but both methods work perfectly for now. Either lift your home using the hidden arrow in Advanced Mode or slide it onto an elevated plot. Once floating, dress it up with rocks and decor to make it look intentional.

Just do it soon, before Blizzard decides to patch gravity back in.
