Lumbering Guide | Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

Lumbering isn’t a skill you level, and no, you can’t just chop down trees like a survival game. But there is a way to farm wood fast once you understand how the lumbering system actually works.
Here’s how to do it the smart way.
Get a Woodcutting Axe First
You can’t use a Lumbering Spot without a proper Woodcutting Axe.
Vendors like Orlaith, found near the keep’s front gate in Horns of the South, usually sell one. You might also find axes in loot containers, but if you’re not into RNG, just buy one and get it over with.
Once you have the axe, you’re good to go. No need to equip it... just have it in your inventory.
Use Lumbering Spots, Not Trees
Lumbering only works at designated spots in the world. These are log piles or chopping blocks, usually placed near towns, crafting areas, or keeps.
Walk up, interact, and you’ll get 3 wood per swing.
Each Lumbering Spot only lasts for a few swings before it’s empty. But the game doesn’t tell you where they are, so you’ll need to remember them.
Respawn System: How to Farm Wood Fast
Lumbering Spots refill over time... kind of.
After a few chops, they go empty. But if you rest at a bonfire for 24 hours, the logs will partially respawn. Usually around 2 to 3 logs come back after each full day.
So the farming loop is:
Chop the logs
Rest 24 hours
Chop again
Repeat
You can sit there doing nothing but lumbering and still turn out a decent stack of wood. Not exciting, but effective.
What to Use Wood For
Wood fuels a lot of low-cost crafting like:
Spears
Shields
Arrows
Basic axes
If you're grinding Handicrafting, wood is your main material, and the good news is it’s free if you’re patient.
Bonus: Each wood sells for 1 gold, so you can technically turn trees into coin. It’s not fast, but it works if you're broke and out of ideas.
Final Blurb & FAQ
Lumbering is simple, quiet, and just boring enough to make you feel like you're surviving something. Grab an axe, find a chopping block, and rotate rest cycles to keep the logs coming.
Just don’t expect to shout “Timber!” anytime soon.
