Monster Hunter Wilds Reviews Collapse on Steam

Written by Andrew Hamel

Capcom’s biggest hit of the year is now one of its most hated

Monster Hunter Wilds may have sold over 10 million copies and broken Steam records, but recent player feedback has slammed the game into Overwhelmingly Negative territory. As of June 20, only 19 percent of recent reviews on Steam are positive, and the overall score has dropped below 60 percent.

Despite a record-breaking launch, the player count is now lower than Monster Hunter: World. Wilds peaked at 16,900 players in the last 24 hours, while World managed 26,000. Players are not just walking away... they’re warning others not to bother.

No patch, no fix, no forgiveness

What makes this drop stand out is that it didn’t come from a new controversy or update. These reviews are still about the same launch issues that were already known.

Players are still pointing out the lack of content compared to World, poor optimization, and the use of Denuvo DRM. Capcom has yet to fix or meaningfully address any of it.

Even newer hardware isn't helping. PC players, especially those on Linux, report massive visual glitches unless they spoof GPUs and mod the game. Some say even Reframework mods work better than the base install.

"The most expensive downgrade"

User reviews describe the combat as simplified, the world as empty, and the structure as misleading. The "open world" is still a mission-based loading screen system, and online play remains limited or broken for many.

Others are calling out the $70 price tag, saying World offers more content for less than half the cost... and goes on sale often for even less.

There’s also frustration with the game’s sluggish exploration, missing mobility features from Rise, and a slow, overbearing story that discourages free play.

One reviewer called it “the most successful fiasco of the year.” Hard to argue.

Final Blurb

Monster Hunter Wilds launched huge, but it’s burning out just as fast. Performance issues, light content, and bad PC support are pushing players away by the thousands.

Capcom has a long road ahead if it wants to pull this one out of the fire.
