Mortal Shell 2 Max Level: Harbinger, Shells & Weapons
Mortal Shell 2 does not have one universal max level because the Harbinger, Shell Bonds, Shell Points, weapons, and Tarstones all use separate progression systems. The Harbinger can advance beyond level 100, but the most important character milestone arrives at level 75, when you receive the final available Shell Point.
That still does not mean you can completely maximize every part of a build during the first playthrough. Gloom can continue raising the Harbinger, but Glimpses and Tarcores are more restrictive, which limits how many Shell Bonds and level-3 Tarstones one save can support. Weapon upgrades are more flexible because their materials can be refunded through the Tarforge.

What Is The Max Level In Mortal Shell 2?
There is no known official maximum Harbinger level in Mortal Shell 2, and character progression can continue beyond level 100. However, level 75 is the practical build milestone because it provides the 42nd and final Shell Point.
Shell Bonds have a maximum level of 4, weapons normally stop at level 16, and Tarstones stop at level 3. The Endless Core found in The Unfound Path can push a weapon beyond its standard level-16 limit, but no equivalent cap-breaking method is confirmed for Shell Bonds or Tarstones.
The full answer therefore depends on which system you mean: Harbinger levels exceed 100, Shell Points stop at 42, Shell Bonds stop at level 4, weapons normally stop at level 16, and Tarstones stop at level 3.
What Is The Harbinger Max Level?
Harbinger Level
The Harbinger does not have a currently known official level cap and can progress beyond level 100. Harbinger levels are purchased with Gloom while resting at a Beacon, with the cost increasing as your level rises.
Leveling the Harbinger increases general health, base damage, Shell ability damage, and critical damage. Certain levels also provide Shell Points, although that part of the progression ends once you have collected all 42.
Gloom can be dropped when you die and recovered from the location where you were defeated. Dying again before retrieving it causes that dropped Gloom to disappear, making the increasingly expensive high-level upgrades more punishing to save for.
Levels beyond 75 still improve the Harbinger’s stats and can help in New Game Plus, but they no longer award additional Shell Points. Level 75 is therefore the build-completion threshold, not the Harbinger’s actual maximum level.
Maximum Shell Points And Required Level
Shell Points
The maximum number of Shell Points is 42, with the final point awarded when the Harbinger reaches level 75. Reaching that level costs approximately 1,500,000 Gloom.
Shell Points activate perks unlocked through your Shell Bonds. They can also be reset, allowing you to respec and try a different perk setup without raising another Harbinger or permanently committing the points to one configuration.
Having all 42 points does not automatically maximize every Shell. Each Shell still needs its Bond raised with Glimpses to unlock the higher perk tiers that those points can activate.
How Many Shells Can You Max In One Playthrough?
Shell Bond Level
Each Shell Bond has a maximum level of 4. Raising a Shell from Bond level 0 to level 1 costs one Glimpse, while reaching the maximum level from zero requires 27 Glimpses and unlocks the Shell’s tier-4 perk options.
Mortal Shell 2 has eight playable Shells whose Bonds can be increased, but Glimpses are finite and cannot maximize all eight during the first playthrough. Glimpses can also be spent on permanent Shell summons during boss fights, reducing the amount available for Bond upgrades.
The available first-playthrough estimates conflict. One progression guide gives two fully bonded Shells as the limit, while another documented roughly 90 collected Glimpses and presents three maximum-Bond Shells as possible, with the remaining Shells left at Bond level 1. Community playtest experience similarly places the total around three and nearly four, provided Glimpses are not spent on summons or other optional uses.
The safest planning number is therefore two maxed Shells, while a third may be possible through thorough Glimpse collection and careful spending. I would not begin a first playthrough assuming that four complete Shells are guaranteed, especially if you plan to use Glimpses for permanent summons.
Bond spending is far less flexible than assigning Shell Points because Glimpses used to deepen a Bond are not normally refunded. Additional Shell progression can continue in New Game Plus, and existing Shells carry over, so the uncompleted Bonds are not permanently abandoned.
How Many Weapons Can You Max In One Playthrough?
Weapon Level
Weapons and sidearms have a standard maximum level of 16. Mortal Shell 2 contains eight weapons and eight sidearms, but the supplied progression information does not establish one reliable number for how many can remain simultaneously maxed during the first playthrough.
Weapon investment is more forgiving than Shell Bond investment because the Tarforge can smelt an upgraded weapon or sidearm back to level 0 and refund its upgrade resources. This allows you to move materials away from a weapon you no longer want to use rather than permanently losing the entire investment.
Community reports indicate that refunding an upgraded weapon carries a substantial Coin cost, potentially around 50,000 Coins depending on the weapon’s level. The materials may be recoverable, but repeatedly rebuilding an arsenal is not necessarily free.
An endgame item called the Endless Core can be found in The Unfound Path and allows a weapon to exceed the normal level-16 cap. Level 16 is therefore the standard maximum rather than the final possible weapon level under every condition.
If you are undecided between several weapons, upgrading one and later smelting it provides more room to experiment than spreading finite Glimpses across several Shell Bonds. The exact number of weapons you can keep maxed at once depends on the upgrade resources collected, but the refund system means an early choice does not have to remain permanent.
Tarstone Max Level And First-Playthrough Limit
Tarstone Level
The maximum Tarstone level is 3. Tarstones earn experience while equipped as you defeat enemies and must then be tempered at the Tarforge to complete their upgrades.
Tempering a Tarstone to level 2 awards one Tarcore, while raising a Tarstone to level 3 costs six Tarcores. This creates a resource loop where taking many Tarstones to level 2 supplies the Tarcores needed to push a smaller selection to level 3.
The practical strategy is to raise most Tarstones to level 2 before deciding which ones deserve the limited Tarcores required for their final upgrade. Combat, Infusion, and Ability Tarstones can also have weapon or sidearm restrictions, so spending Tarcores before confirming compatibility can leave you with a level-3 effect that does not fit your preferred equipment.
Current community testing places the available Tarcore supply at enough to bring approximately 24 Tarstones to level 3, while the wider collection can still be raised to level 2 through equipped experience. Unlike weapon materials, Tarcores do not currently have a confirmed refund method, so those level-3 decisions are considerably more permanent.
Community reports also state that Tarstone replacements in New Game Plus award Ossinite rather than additional Tarcores. If that behavior remains unchanged, entering New Game Plus does not provide another unlimited source for finishing every remaining level-3 Tarstone.
When Should You Stop Leveling?
Level 75 is the best general Harbinger target because it provides all 42 Shell Points and completes the perk-point side of character progression. Continue beyond 75 if you want the additional health and damage stats for New Game Plus, but do not expect any more Shell Points.
Shell Bond spending deserves more caution. Plan around completing two preferred Shells before distributing Glimpses widely, then consider a third only after seeing how many Glimpses remain and whether you intend to spend any on permanent summons.
Weapon upgrades can be approached more freely because the Tarforge can smelt weapons and return their upgrade materials, although the Coin cost discourages constant switching. Bring a preferred weapon to the standard level-16 cap and use the Endless Core if you want to continue its endgame progression.
Tarstones require the most selective final upgrades. Taking them to level 2 generates Tarcores, but every move to level 3 consumes six of that finite resource. Experiment while the Tarstones are at level 2, then reserve the final tier for effects that match the Shell, weapon, and sidearm combination you actually plan to keep.
Final Blurb
The Mortal Shell 2 max level depends on which progression system you are measuring. The Harbinger can exceed level 100, but level 75 is the most important milestone because it awards the final Shell Point and completes the 42-point total for approximately 1,500,000 Gloom.
Shell Bonds max at level 4 and cost 27 Glimpses each, with two being the conservative first-playthrough target and three possible under more favorable spending conditions. Weapons normally max at level 16 but can be smelted to refund materials or pushed farther with the Endless Core, while Tarstones stop at level 3 and currently rely on a finite, nonrefundable Tarcore supply.
