Necromancer Build Guide in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

You can play as a necromancer in Tainted Grail, and yes, it’s a legit build. It’s also buggy, awkward, and occasionally brilliant... but definitely viable if you play it right.
Summoning undead, blowing up corpses, and using spiritual magic all work well together. Just don’t expect it to feel completely polished.
How to Start a Necromancer Build
Do the Cemetery Crypt Quest Early
To unlock necromancer tools, head to the Forgotten Cemetery north of the Horns fort.
You’ll find a quest from the Quartermaster that leads to a crypt. In it, you’ll meet a necromancer named Huardoc.
You can:
Kill him for necro gear
Convince him to give up necromancy
Fail and fight his undead form
No matter what happens, make sure to talk to the zombie near the entrance. That’s how you get the Skeleton Army spell and sometimes a key to the inner crypt.
You’ll also get a robe and hood with strong mana stats, both requiring 5 Spirituality.
Best Necromancy Spells
Core Summons
Skeleton Army: Your classic frontline meat shields
Corpse Eater: Fast melee summon with decent health
Grindylow: Stronger summon that soaks up hits
Ghost of Broc Meala: High-cost summon for late game
You’ll only be able to summon a few at first. As you build Spirituality and unlock perks, you can go up to five.

Support Spells
Soul Salvage: Lets you despawn a summon to heal or restore mana
Corpse Explosion: Deals AoE damage by detonating corpses
Blood or Poison Spells: Adds chip damage and synergy
These mix well with undead builds and give you something to do while your summons get stuck in a doorway.
Upgrade Your Summons
Use the Spirituality Skill Tree
In the Spirituality tree, you’ll want to grab:
Astral Bonds: Increases summon limit
Healing Aura: Slowly regenerates summon HP
Summoner’s Might: Boosts summon damage
You’ll also want to boost total mana and mana regen. Each summon locks out part of your mana bar.
If you don’t manage this well, you’ll be stuck with half a bar and some confused skeletons bumping into walls.
How to Deal With Buggy Summons
Summons are powerful... when they actually attack.
They get stuck in walls, forget to fight, and sometimes just disappear. You’ll need to:
Manually command them with the alt-cast button
Rest at a fire to reset them if needed
Keep Soul Salvage ready to free up mana
They also block tight areas and love standing right in your line of fire. It’s like babysitting, but with zombies.
Final Blurb & FAQ
Going full necromancer in Tainted Grail is completely possible. You get cool gear, plenty of summons, and ways to combo with blood, poison, or corpse spells.
It’s also rough around the edges, but if you’re patient, the fun can be very satisfying.
This build works best with smart pathing, high mana, and a strong sense of humor.
FAQ
Q: Can I summon more than three creatures at once?
Yes, but only after unlocking Astral Bonds in the Spirituality skill tree.
Q: What happens if my summons stop working or disappear?
You can rest at a campfire to reset them, or use Soul Salvage to despawn manually.
Q: Where do I get the Skeleton Army spell?
From the crypt quest at the Forgotten Cemetery. You need to talk to the zombie NPC after dealing with Huardoc.
Q: Are there necromancer-specific gear sets?
Yes. Huardoc drops a hood and robe with strong mana stats for summoners.
Q: Are summons bugged sometimes?
Yes. Pathing issues, stuck animations, and bad targeting are common. Still playable, just annoying.
