New World Confirms Final Update As Servers Prepare For Sunset
After four years of expansions, balance passes, and constant updates, Amazon has officially announced that New World will no longer receive new content. The studio confirmed that Season 10 Nighthaven is the last major update for the game on both PC and console.
The End Of Development
New World first launched in 2021 and saw steady updates, from major endgame overhauls to the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion. But as the player base slowed and resources shifted to other projects, the team reached what they called an unsustainable point for ongoing development.
The Nighthaven update will stand as the game’s final content release, capping off the Season 10 storyline. To thank the community, Amazon made both Nighthaven and Rise of the Angry Earth free for all PC players. Console owners can also access the content at no additional cost.
What Happens Next
While no new content is coming, the servers aren’t shutting down yet. Amazon plans to keep New World live through 2026, allowing players to keep playing and finish their adventures in Aeternum.
The studio also confirmed that New World Aeternum will stay available for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers. Players who previously bought the game will still be able to reinstall and access it normally.
Gameplay And Events Going Forward
Even without new story updates, Amazon says the servers will continue running regular world bosses, bonus weeks, and some recurring events. However, seasonal holidays and new expansion content will no longer appear.
Marks of Fortune, the in-game premium currency, will still function for the time being. Players can continue to earn, spend, and purchase it while the game remains active.
A Goodbye Without A Shutdown
Amazon hasn’t called this an official sunset. Instead, it’s a long farewell. The team says any major changes to playability will come with at least six months’ notice, giving the community time to wrap up their progress and enjoy what’s left.
Final Blurb
New World’s run has officially reached its final phase. Nighthaven closes the book on years of updates, leaving Aeternum as it stands today. The world isn’t gone yet, but its next chapter will be written by the players who stick around until the end.
