Oblivion Remastered Character Creation Guide & Origins

Creating your character in Oblivion Remastered isn’t just about picking the prettiest (or least cursed) face anymore. Bethesda decided it was time to let you dive even deeper into roleplaying by adding Origins—because clearly, choosing a race wasn’t complicated enough.

Here’s a simple guide to get you through character creation without spending three hours adjusting cheekbones.

What’s New in Character Creation?

  • New Character Models – Faces and bodies that won’t haunt your dreams.

  • Revamped UI – Easier to navigate without feeling like you're wrestling with the menu.

  • Origins System – Every race now has two backgrounds to pick from, giving you a bit more lore flavor.

How Do Origins Work?

Each race in Oblivion Remastered comes with two Origins. These don't turn you into a superhero, but they add a little backstory to where your character came from. Right now, it's mostly for roleplay—though with all the new voice lines, you might hear some fun references.

Here’s the full list of Origins:

  • Argonian – Arnesia or Thornmarsh

  • Breton – Systres or High Rock

  • Dark Elf – Vvardenfell or Mainland Morrowind

  • High Elf – Auridon or Summerset Isle

  • Imperial – Nibenay or Colovia

  • Khajiit – Anequina or Pellitine

  • Nord – Western Skyrim or Eastern Skyrim

  • Orc – Stronghold or Orsinium

  • Redguard – Dragontail Mountains or Alik'r Desert

  • Wood Elf – Grahtwood or Reaper's March

Pick whichever sounds cool—there’s no wrong choice (yet).

Steps for Character Creation

  1. Pick Your Race
Each race comes with unique bonuses. Want to breathe underwater? Be an Argonian. Want magic? High Elf. Want to punch everything? Nord.

  2. Choose Your Origin
Adds lore flavor. Pretend it matters even if it’s just for immersion—for now.

  3. Customize Appearance
Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, your character won’t look like they fell down a flight of stairs. Still, sliders are sliders—don’t get lost.

  4. Pick a Birthsign
These give passive bonuses. The Thief, Warrior, and Mage are easy picks, but there are niche ones if you like living dangerously.

  5. Select Your Class
Either pick from 21 preset classes or make a custom class (which, let’s be honest, is the best option).

  6. Confirm Everything Before Leaving the Sewers
This is your only chance to change race, class, or birthsign without using console commands. Once you step into Cyrodiil, you're locked in.

Final Blurb

Character creation in Oblivion Remastered lets you pretend you’re making serious life decisions—until you realize you’ll spend most of the game in a helmet. But hey, at least now you know if your Imperial is from Nibenay or Colovia while you're saving the world.

Pick a race, choose an origin, and try not to spend your entire evening perfecting eyebrow height. Cyrodiil isn’t going to explore itself.
