The Gem Tote is a high level Old School RuneScape (OSRS) gem container made at 81 Crafting. It stores 20 uncut opal, 20 uncut jade, and 20 uncut red topaz, and it is the final semi precious gem container before the Gem Sack upgrade.

How To Get Gem Tote In OSRS
To get the Gem Tote in OSRS, combine a Gem Satchel, 1 Bolt of cotton, 1 Silk, and 1 Thread with a needle at level 81 Crafting.
The Gem Tote is crafted, not bought or dropped. It is the third item in the new semi precious gem container line, coming after the Gem Pouch and Gem Satchel. Its main job is to hold more uncut opal, jade, and red topaz before eventually becoming part of the Gem Sack upgrade.
This is not an early convenience item like the Gem Pouch. The 81 Crafting requirement puts the Gem Tote much later in the upgrade path, and that makes it more of a long term utility item for accounts that collect semi precious gems often or want the final Gem Sack.
The clean path is simple: make or own a Gem Pouch, upgrade it into a Gem Satchel at 39 Crafting, then upgrade the Gem Satchel into a Gem Tote at 81 Crafting. After that, the Gem Tote can be combined with a Gem Bag and Immaculate mole skin to make the Gem Sack.
Gem Tote Recipe And Requirements
The Gem Tote requires 81 Crafting and gives 200 Crafting XP when made.
| Requirement | Needed |
|---|---|
| Crafting level | 81 Crafting |
| Tool | Needle |
| Materials | 1 Gem Satchel, 1 Bolt of cotton, 1 Silk, 1 Thread |
| Crafting XP | 200 Crafting XP |
| Members only | Yes |
The Gem Satchel is the biggest requirement because the tote is not made from scratch. It upgrades the previous container tier. That means players need to start at the Gem Pouch step before reaching the Gem Tote.
For the start of that container line, the OSRS Gem Pouch guide explains the first recipe, storage limit, and full upgrade path into Gem Satchel, Gem Tote, and Gem Sack.
The other important material is Bolt of cotton. This replaces the earlier bolt materials used in the lower tier containers, making the Gem Tote the point where the upgrade path starts asking for stronger Sailing related materials.
What Gem Tote Stores
The Gem Tote stores up to 20 uncut opal, 20 uncut jade, and 20 uncut red topaz.
| Gem | Storage Capacity |
|---|---|
| Uncut opal | 20 |
| Uncut jade | 20 |
| Uncut red topaz | 20 |
The Gem Tote only stores semi precious gems. It does not store uncut sapphire, emerald, ruby, diamond, or dragonstone by itself. Those gems belong to the regular Gem Bag side of the system.
This is the main reason the Gem Tote is not the same thing as a better Gem Bag. It is better than the Gem Pouch and Gem Satchel for opal, jade, and red topaz, but it still needs to become the Gem Sack before it combines both gem storage paths.
How To Use The Gem Tote
The Gem Tote has Fill, Open, Check, Empty, and Destroy options.
| Option | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Fill | Stores eligible uncut opal, jade, and red topaz from the inventory. |
| Open | Toggles the tote open or closed. |
| Check | Shows how many eligible gems are stored inside. |
| Empty | Removes stored gems from the tote. |
| Destroy | Destroys the tote, meaning another one has to be crafted. |
The tote is untradeable, unstackable, and not noteable. It is a carried storage item, not a market item. Its value comes from reducing inventory clutter when collecting the semi precious gems.
Be careful with Destroy. The warning says another Gem Tote has to be crafted, which means making or using another Gem Satchel, Bolt of cotton, Silk, Thread, and the 81 Crafting requirement again. That is not the kind of mistake anyone needs before coffee.
Gem Tote Upgrade Path
The Gem Tote is the third step in the semi precious gem container upgrade path and the direct ingredient for the Gem Sack.
| Container | Crafting Requirement | Storage | Upgrade Materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gem Pouch | 12 Crafting | 5 each of uncut opal, jade, and red topaz | Bolt of linen, Thread, Silk |
| Gem Satchel | 39 Crafting | 10 each of uncut opal, jade, and red topaz | Gem Pouch, Bolt of canvas, Thread, Silk |
| Gem Tote | 81 Crafting | 20 each of uncut opal, jade, and red topaz | Gem Satchel, Bolt of cotton, Thread, Silk |
| Gem Sack | 81 Crafting | 60 each of all uncut gems up to dragonstone | Gem Tote, Gem Bag, Immaculate mole skin |
Stored gems are kept when upgrading from one container tier to the next. That makes the lower tier containers safe to use before upgrading, instead of forcing players to leave them empty while waiting for higher Crafting levels.
The Gem Tote is the last semi precious only version. Once it becomes a Gem Sack, the container finally combines the Gem Tote side with the regular Gem Bag side.
Gem Tote Vs Gem Satchel
The Gem Tote is better than the Gem Satchel because it doubles semi precious gem storage from 10 each to 20 each.
| Container | Crafting Level | Stores | Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gem Satchel | 39 Crafting | Uncut opal, jade, red topaz | 10 each |
| Gem Tote | 81 Crafting | Uncut opal, jade, red topaz | 20 each |
The upgrade is straightforward, but the Crafting jump is large. The Gem Satchel sits at 39 Crafting, while the Gem Tote requires 81 Crafting. That makes the tote less of a casual early craft and more of a serious account upgrade.
The reason to make it anyway is the final path. Players who want the Gem Sack need the Gem Tote first, so the 81 Crafting requirement has to be handled eventually.
How Gem Tote Upgrades Into Gem Sack
The Gem Tote can be combined with a Gem Bag and Immaculate mole skin to create the Gem Sack.
The Gem Sack is the final version of the new gem container line. It stores both semi precious gems and standard uncut gems up to dragonstone, combining the storage value of the Gem Tote and Gem Bag into one stronger item.
| Gem Sack Requirement | Needed |
|---|---|
| Crafting level | 81 Crafting |
| Container 1 | 1 Gem Tote |
| Container 2 | 1 Gem Bag |
| Boss material | 1 Immaculate mole skin |
| Tool option | Needle and Thread, or Costume needle |
| Crafting XP | 300 Crafting XP |
This is why the Gem Tote matters even if 20 storage per semi precious gem does not sound exciting by itself. The tote is required for the Gem Sack, and the Gem Sack is the real end goal for players who want the full gem storage upgrade.
For the Giant Mole material, the Immaculate Mole Skin guide covers the drop rate, Gem Sack use, and the Wyson trade in warning.
Should You Make Gem Tote
The Gem Tote is worth making if the account has 81 Crafting and plans to make the Gem Sack.
As a standalone item, the tote is a clear improvement over the Gem Satchel because it holds 20 of each semi precious gem instead of 10. That helps during activities where opal, jade, and red topaz stack up in the inventory.
The bigger reason to make it is the Gem Sack. Since the Gem Tote is required for that final upgrade, players chasing the best gem container will need the tote regardless. The only reason to delay it is if the account does not have the Crafting level, Bolt of cotton, Gem Satchel, or Immaculate mole skin path ready yet.
If semi precious gems are not a problem and the Gem Sack is not a near term goal, the tote can wait. If the account is already working toward the full storage upgrade, make it as soon as the materials and level are ready.

Final Blurb
The Gem Tote in OSRS is made at 81 Crafting with a Gem Satchel, Bolt of cotton, Silk, and Thread. It stores 20 uncut opal, 20 uncut jade, and 20 uncut red topaz, making it the strongest semi precious only container before the Gem Sack.
The tote is worth making mainly because it leads directly into the Gem Sack. On its own, it is a clean storage upgrade over the Gem Satchel. As part of the full chain, it is required for the best gem container setup. Make the pouch, upgrade through the satchel, turn it into the tote, then add the Gem Bag and Immaculate mole skin when the final upgrade is ready. Tiny gems finally get organized. Historic day for bank clutter.
