OSRS Sailing Crew Guide | Crewmates and Locations

Getting your first crew in Sailing feels like unlocking a whole new part of your ship, so this guide shows exactly where to find every crewmate and what each one does.

How to Recruit Crewmates

You unlock crewmates by talking to them on land first, then assigning them at the Crew Registrar on The Pandemonium. Your raft or boat needs an open slot before you can place one. Each crewmate has unique stats for helmsmanship, privateering, and deckhandiness, and they only work in slots that match their skill level.

Crew Stats Explained

Helmsmanship Basics

Helmsmanship helps with steering and sail trimming. A crewmate can take the helm and trim your sails for half the normal Sailing XP. You still handle the heading, sail toggles, and reverse. Only one helm crewmate can be active at a time.

Privateering Basics

Privateering controls sea combat and facility use. Each weapon tier needs a matching privateering level. Higher privateering lets you run stronger cannons and fight high tier monsters at sea.

Deckhandiness Basics

Deckhandiness covers tasks like salvaging and carrying crates. Level 1 and 2 deckhands carry one crate. Level 3 carries two crates. Higher tiers also help with manual facilities like hooks and nets.

Helmsmanship controls helm tasks and sail trimming. Better helmsmanship means smoother boat handling during routes and trials.

Privateering Uses

Privateering unlocks cannon tiers. You need level 4 privateering for rune or dragon cannon use. It also affects combat power during bounty tasks.

Deckhandiness Uses

Deckhandiness boosts salvaging and crate carrying. Higher decks also improve manual tasks that happen on the ship during travel.
