OSRS Sailing How to Get a Crew

Sailing gets a lot smoother once you start filling your boat with real crew, so knowing how to unlock each one helps you grow fast.

How to Get Crew in Sailing

You unlock your first crewmate at Sailing level 40. Talk to Jobless Jim in Port Sarim, then head to the Crew Registrar in the Pandemonium to place him into your boat. More crewmates appear as you reach higher Sailing levels, and your total crew slots rise at fixed breakpoints.

How Crew Stats Work on Your Boat

Crewmates bring three stats that shape how your ship performs. Helmsmanship controls steering strength during rough seas. Privateering supports your gear during storms or combat. Deckhandiness handles manual work like salvaging and basic ship tasks. Picking a mix of these stats helps your boat feel more stable as you explore harder waters.

Crew slots also scale with your Sailing level. You start with one slot at level 40, then more slots unlock all the way up to level 95. Some Facilities can change how your slots appear on your layout.
