RimWorld Odyssey Multiplayer Explained (1.6)

If you're hoping to play RimWorld Odyssey with friends, here's the reality: there is no working multiplayer support for version 1.6 as of July 2025. Everything multiplayer-related depends on community mods, and none of them are fully compatible with the Odyssey DLC yet.

No Official Multiplayer

RimWorld has never had official multiplayer. The only way to play with others is by using mods like Multiplayer (Zetrith fork) or Rimworld Together. These are the two main options, and both are broken with version 1.6.

Odyssey DLC Breaks Compatibility

The 1.6 update brings big changes to map generation, biomes, animals, weather, and more. Because of that, both major multiplayer mods are currently not compatible with Odyssey as of the writing of this article in July 2025.

Developers of those mods are working on updates, but there’s no public release or ETA. If you try to load Odyssey with multiplayer, it likely won't work or will crash immediately.

Your Multiplayer Options (On Version 1.5)

If you're okay downgrading to 1.5, you do have working options:

Multiplayer Mod (Zetrith / Zenith Fork)

  • Everyone plays in the same colony

  • All pawns, buildings, and events are shared

  • Best for co-op city building

  • Does not support separate factions

Rimworld Together

  • Each player starts their own colony on the world map

  • Time flows independently for each player

  • Interaction is limited, mostly trade or world events

  • Colonies can’t fully merge or join bases

Stability Notes

Multiplayer on 1.5 is playable, but there are still bugs. Desyncs happen sometimes, especially with large or untested mod lists.

  • Avoid performance-heavy mods like RocketMan

  • Use fewer than 30 mods if possible

  • Mods with a compatibility score of 4 are safe

  • Mods with a score of 1 should be removed

How to Downgrade to 1.5

To play multiplayer now, you’ll need to switch back to 1.5:

  1. Right-click RimWorld in Steam

  2. Go to Properties

  3. Open the Betas tab

  4. Select version 1.5 from the dropdown

Then install one of the supported multiplayer mods.

What About 1.6 Support?

Right now, multiplayer does not work on 1.6. That includes:

  • Odyssey DLC

  • New biomes

  • New weather

  • New map generation features

Mod developers are planning to update, but nothing is released yet. Expect a long wait if you want to use Odyssey in multiplayer.

Final Blurb

There’s no multiplayer support for RimWorld Odyssey or version 1.6 at this time. Your only option is to downgrade to version 1.5 and use community mods like Zetrith’s Multiplayer or Rimworld Together.

The community is working on updates behind the scenes, but for now, Odyssey is strictly single-player.
