Casting a fishing rod in WoW Forever works differently from what returning World of Warcraft players might expect. The Fishing ability isn't located in your regular spellbook, which makes getting started a little confusing. Once you've found the correct ability, fishing is a straightforward process.

How to Cast a Fishing Rod in WoW Forever
To cast your fishing rod in WoW Forever, open the Professions window using the hammer-and-pick icon at the bottom of your screen. Drag the Fishing ability onto your action bar, equip your Fishing Pole, and activate the ability while facing water. When the bobber splashes, right-click it to catch your fish.
Here's the complete process:
- Learn Fishing from a Fishing trainer if you haven't already.
- Open the Professions window, located in the bottom menu.
- Find the Fishing ability and drag it onto an empty action bar slot.
- Equip a Fishing Pole in your weapon slot.
- Stand beside a lake, river, or pond and face the water.
- Press the Fishing ability on your action bar to cast your line.
- Watch the bobber and right-click it when it splashes.
You can assign a convenient keybind to the Fishing ability so you don't have to click the action bar every time you cast.
The most important detail is waiting for the bobber to splash. Clicking it before a bite isn't how you complete a successful catch.
Where to Get a Fishing Pole and Learn Fishing
Fishing must be learned from a trainer before you can use the ability. Apprentice Fishing has no character level requirement in WoW Forever, so even a newly created character can get started.
Fishing trainers are available in capital cities and starting zones. For example, Horde players can visit Lumak in Orgrimmar, while Alliance players can learn from Arnold Leland in Stormwind.
If you're having trouble locating a trainer in a capital city, ask a guard for directions. The trainer's location will be marked on your map.
Once you've learned the profession, purchase a Fishing Pole from a Fishing Supply vendor or a Trade Supply vendor. A basic pole costs only a few copper.
I'd also recommend buying some Shiny Baubles while you're there. These inexpensive lures help you catch fish when your Fishing skill is still low.
Why Can't You Fish in WoW Forever?
If your fishing rod isn't working, the problem is usually related to the ability's location, your equipped gear, or the Fishing skill required for the area.
You Can't Find the Fishing Ability
Unlike traditional versions of World of Warcraft, WoW Forever places Fishing in the Professions window rather than your regular spellbook.
Open the hammer-and-pick menu, locate Fishing, and drag it onto your action bar. You can then activate it like any other ability.
Your Fishing Pole Isn't Equipped
Make sure you've equipped your Fishing Pole before attempting to cast. Simply owning one in your inventory isn't enough.
You can purchase a basic pole from Fishing Supply vendors and many Trade Supply vendors.
Your Fish Keeps Getting Away
If you're seeing the message "Your fish got away!", your Fishing skill may be too low for the area.
Starting zones are the best places to begin. In these areas, fish stop escaping once you reach Fishing skill 25. Using a Shiny Bauble provides a temporary +25 Fishing bonus, allowing you to avoid escapes there even at skill 1.
Capital cities require more skill, with escapes stopping at Fishing 75. For that reason, I'd start in a beginner zone instead of fishing in a capital city immediately.
To apply a lure, equip your Fishing Pole and use the lure on it. Shiny Baubles last 10 minutes, making them especially useful for your earliest catches.
Once you've added Fishing to your action bar, equipped your pole, and found suitable water, you can cast whenever you're ready. Watch for the bobber to splash, right-click it, and continue fishing to improve your skill.
