Abiotic Factor: Autosave and How to Save in Multiplayer

Written by Michael Owen | Abiotic Factor

Abiotic Factor saves your progress automatically, including when quitting through the menu, so you do not need manual saves. Autosave runs every few minutes and works in single player and multiplayer, with backup saves to prevent corruption.

How autosave works

Abiotic Factor uses an autosave system that runs every five minutes while you play. These saves protect your progress even if the game crashes or closes unexpectedly.

A backup system keeps up to five previous world saves. If the main save has an issue, you can restore from one of these backups manually.

Does it save when quitting

Yes, quitting through the in-game menu triggers a final save. This captures your latest progress before the game closes.

Force quitting or closing the game during heavy activity can lose a small amount of progress. Using the normal quit option or a force save from the admin menu avoids this problem.

How to save in multiplayer

Multiplayer saving works the same way as single player. The host handles saving, and all progress is stored in their save files.

Dedicated servers keep saves on the server hardware. You can also upload a single player save to a dedicated server to continue with friends.

Save file location and Steam Cloud

Save files are stored locally in
<Username>\AppData\Local\AbioticFactor\Saved\SaveGames\<SteamID>\Worlds

The main save syncs with Steam Cloud, allowing play across devices with the same account. Backup saves do not sync to avoid overwriting issues.

Final Blurb

Abiotic Factor autosave keeps progress safe with regular saves and a final save on exit. Multiplayer relies on the host or server for world saving. Backups add extra protection, making saving simple and reliable.
