Abiotic Factor Cooking Guide

Written by Michael Owen | Abiotic Factor

Cooking in Abiotic Factor keeps hunger and thirst under control and unlocks useful buffs. It also lets you create bulk meals like soup and craft materials for advanced recipes.

Cooking skill

Cooking raises a Cooking skill that unlocks new recipes and improves food quality. Level 3 unlocks soup recipes, and level 10 unlocks baking with the Convection Oven and Raw Dough. Level 15 increases soup portions, making cooking more efficient for long trips or team play.

Frying

Frying is available from the start. Place a Frying Pan or makeshift pan on a working stove, add raw food, and wait for it to finish cooking. Overcooked food becomes burned, which lowers hunger value and drains thirst but can be processed into bio scrap.

Fried recipes include meat, fish, eggs, and sandwiches. These are quick to make and help level cooking early.

Soup

Soup unlocks at cooking level 3 and is one of the best food options in the game. Use a pot filled with water or antejuice on a stove, then add ingredients. Matching a recipe creates a named soup. Adding the wrong mix gives bad soup but still unlocks the proper recipe.

A single pot produces multiple servings and scales up to 12 portions at cooking level 15. Soups restore hunger and thirst together and often add buffs like Lightfooted or Quick Reflexes. Examples include Bland Pea Soup for balanced recovery and Sustenance Soup for turning M.R.E.s into high-value meals.

Utility soups and non-food recipes

Some soups make crafting materials like glue or solder instead of food. Other recipes produce non-soup dishes such as rice or pasta. Joke soups like Bad Soup and Poop Soup exist but cause debuffs and are best avoided.

Baking

Baking unlocks at cooking level 10. Recipes use the Convection Oven and include bread, pies, stuffed roasts, cookies, and pizza. Many baked foods are sliced into portions, making them good for group use. Baking takes longer but creates high-value meals in bulk.

Final Blurb

Cooking in Abiotic Factor is more than survival. It rewards skill progression, allows bulk food storage, and gives strong buffs to improve gameplay. Start with frying, move to soups at level 3, and aim for baking at level 10 for top-tier meals.
